golubj (1275), Sunnyvale, California, USA Jan 28, 2008 Bottle. Murky brown pour with a reddish hint. Aroma is oak, vanilla, sweet alcohol, some roasted malt, and nuttiness. Flavor is rich malt, vanilla, light bourbon, and some slightly roasted malt also. Balanced and flavorful. Dough77 (771), Aurora, Illinois, USA Jan 28, 2008 Slightly dissapointed by this one, but with a twist. I had consumed a small portion of a bottle awhile before I cracked open my own bottle and loved it. But with my own full bottle split with the father in law I found it to be one dimensional. very bourbon and bourbon only. Thrown in a bit of caramel and vanilla but not enough to really make it exciting. Have 2 more bottles to crack open though, hoping one brings it back to its high expectations. heylrule (46), Maryland, USA Jan 27, 2008 thanks bob for popping this one open on my birthday. very very dark brown pour light brown head. very sweet with tastes of roasted malts raisons sugar and carmel. Taste is pleasantly sweet with hints of vanilla, oak, prunes, plums, dates, dark brown sugar, raisins, caramel and malt. Has a spectacular brandy finish. One of the best beers Ive had and certainly the best barley wine Ive ever had. DenverLogan (421), MileHi, Colorado, USA Jan 24, 2008 Ruby brown; tan head. Rich malt and coconut aroma...more coconut in the first batch. I’ve had this many times including at the 06’ Toronado Barleywine fest where it won an award. Flavors of rich amber malts, vanilla, oak, bourbon, maple syrup, caramel. Quite tasty, smooth and lovely, with the first batch perhaps a tad more special. Rich and lovely, fresh or aged, in bottle or on tap. cbkschubert (1930), Cochise Co., Arizona, USA Jan 23, 2008 2007 750 ml bottle via trade with wetherel - Pours a hazy brown color with a faint off white head. No lacing to mention. Aroma is oak/bourbon, dark esters, molasses, and vanilla. Flavor is sweet malt, dark esters, and vanilla. Medium to full body. I think what sticks out the most about this beer besides the fantastic aroma and flavor, is that it is SO smooth for a relatively young beer. A fantastic beer. Thanks John. axilla (962), New Providence, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 22, 2008 Updated: Feb 6, 2008Courtesy of JimboWood. Poured a cloudy dark brown with a foamy, tan head. The aroma is big dark fruits with toffee, toasted and roasted malts, chocolate, and bourbon. Flavors are sweet carmel, big cinnamon and brown sugar, choclate, vanilla, raisins, plums, with some bitter hops and bourbon coming through in the finish. Surprisingly smooth.
