Commercial Description:
Down in Kentucky and across the pond in Scotland, distillers who age their whiskeys for many years refer to the evaporation of the spirits from their barrels as “The Angel’s Share.” We couldn’t agree more. Our Angel’s Share is a barrel aged burgundy colored ale infused with copious amounts of dark caramel malt to emphasize the vanilla and oak flavors found in freshly emptied brandy barrels. Each batch spends no less than 6 months aging in the oak. The beer is available in 750 ml bottles and on draft at inspired locations.

2008 ABV: 12.5%, gold lettering, 750ml and 375ml, with 2008 on label
2007 ABV: 11.5%, gold lettering, 750ml only
2006 ABV: 10.5%, black lettering, 750ml only

Hot and alcoholic in a good way. There is soo much sweetness in the caramel and chocolate with the highest quality of oak aging. I felt that this is what great aging in barrels is all about. Delicious, elegant, and powerful. Amazing aroma, appearance, and lasting impression.

From a 750ml bottle. Pours deep plum with a medium head. After a highly-anticipated first sip, I was struck by a deep booziness and an elegant undertone of grape must. Really creamy and refined. Vanilla, oak, and dark fruits. More like Avery Mephistopheles (the first, really good batch) or Worldwide Stout than a barleywine. Carbonation died heavily near the end of the bottle. Elegant and highly alcoholic.

Bottle at Monk’s café (also have a bottle from miketd – thanks man, I really had no idea I would get to try one here in Philly – now I have one to lay down for a bit!) Dark plum colored pour with a light off-white head. Wonderful aroma of brandy, vanilla, bourbon, apples, wood, plum, and various sugars. Flavor is a fantastic blend of brandy barrel and dark fruit goodness. Fresh apples and plums, maple syrup, vanilla, and woody-brandy flavors abound. Great mouthfeel – thick, sticky, and rich. Saying it’s the best barleywine just doesn’t do it justice. This truly is one of the best beers in the world.

2007 bottle shared by kp at the footsex gathering. The big dogs keep on coming and I couldn’t say no. I didn’t take too many notes on this one either. Just something like "sweet, dark, tasty." Wow, thats descriptive. I will make sure to go back and re-rate this when I receive another bottle through the patron sinner program. Till then, I’ll have this record of this amazing experience sharing some of the most coveted beers on the site. Thanks a bunch, kp!

Aroma at first was strictly oak, heavy caramel, molasses, and toffee, thought it was a little tepid at first, was going to put this in the 7 range, but after even more warming, the rich bourbon started coming out,and this became a treasure to inhale, taste was a rich buttery caramel, you could almost chew it, teasing soft bourbon and vanilla, absolutely no fruit ester, odd for a barleywine, fantastic smoothness. You have to have a little patience with this one, it dosen’t want to yield it s charms immediately, but bear with it and you’ll be rewarded. Thanks Overlord

Pours a dark brown, with almost no head and spotty lacing. Aromas of oak, roasted malts, caramel, some dark esters, and very light vanilla. A slight alcohol smell also comes through. Flavors of roasted malts, caramel, light molasses, and hints of vanilla. A little bitter, but over all sweet and smooth. Feeling of alcohol warmness on the way down.

Pours a dark brown with a minimal head. No lacing. Aroma gives away a high ETOH punch. Aroma also sweet with vanilla notes. Taste is warming but a little too sweet for me. Definitely warms you down to your toes
