Commercial Description:
Down in Kentucky and across the pond in Scotland, distillers who age their whiskeys for many years refer to the evaporation of the spirits from their barrels as “The Angel’s Share.” We couldn’t agree more. Our Angel’s Share is a barrel aged burgundy colored ale infused with copious amounts of dark caramel malt to emphasize the vanilla and oak flavors found in freshly emptied brandy barrels. Each batch spends no less than 6 months aging in the oak. The beer is available in 750 ml bottles and on draft at inspired locations.

750 bottle thanks to the Patron Saints special sale. Thanks guys. Pours dark, almost black with a small, white head. Nose is sweet, raisins, prunes, spicy, with a faint alcohol presence. Taste starts sweet with raisiny/prunish flavors with the alcohol well hidden. Alcohol comes through the nose-barley wine with a twist. Body is full with moderate carbonation. Bourbon comes through but does not overwhelm. Very subtle, great beer. I can’t believe this is over 11% ABV and that I drank the entire bottle by myself.

Thanks Ross for sharing this one. This was a fantastic beer. Pours out a black color with a small tan head. didnt quite expect it to be so dark. aroma was full of whisky and vinilla scents with touches of malt and sweetness. flavor was great. you get the whisky flavor first followed be the malt and sweetness. alcohol was well hidden. this is certainly one of the better beers i have drank.

Thanks to WeeheavySD for this one, number 700. Pours out almost black with a small tan head. Aroma of vanilla, oak, whiskey and some dark fruits. Taste is very complex, velvet-like mouthfeel. Dark fruit mainly fig and raisin combine with a solid whiskey/oak/vanilla flavor making a very balanced beer. Slight sweet malts lingering in the background with a slight caramel/alcohol finish. Very solid

Rerate. Really nice aroma; sweet caramel, fruit, brandy, wood, cocoa and vanilla. Picked up a bit more cocoa and roasted malt in the flavor this time. Still had a great variety of flavor components. Extremely drinkable, but nowhere near the 4.3 that I previously rated it. The flavor just was not as good. Bottle with a big thanks to golubj’s brother and golubj himself. Fitting way to end my trip back out to California. Poured a dark cola brown with a small to medium light brown head; darker compared to most of the style. Aroma of dark fruit/figs, caramel chews, vanilla, oak and some light roasted elements. Full palate with a rather soft presence on the palate indicating a nice and minimal amount of carbonation. A plethora of flavors emerged with each sip. Definitely a beer to be sipped, but the alcohol was not too assertive for my liking. Flavors included roasted malt, caramel (especially initially), dark fruit, vanilla, alcohol, with some general sweetness. Overall this was fantastic, and only Behemoth keeps it from being my favorite barleywine. A bottle of this is coming to kleyland and KieferUGA in Georgia shortly.

Very dark brown, almost black. Light tan head with a ring around the glass, no lacing left behind. Smell of brandy, figs, prunes, vanilla; quite sweet. Brandy and some oak greet the tongue intitially, leading into vanillia, figs, and dark fruits. Thicker than medium body, with carbonation on the lower side. Solid beer, but not exactly what I thought it might be. Perhaps some age will develop it more.

Incredible. Pours a caramel brown, almost opaque with a thick creamy head and contiuous lacing. Nose is big brandy at first followed by caramel, chocolate, dark fruits and if taken in altogether without picking them out it smells like plain yogourt. Big brandy up front but not boozy whatsoever. Chocolate, brown sugar, caramel and dark fruits all take their turn on your pallate then a smooth as silk brandy finish. Insanely drinkable and I couldnt detect half the abv. A world class libation.

Nov 07 release. 750ml. Deep brown body, nearly black, with a dark tan or brown head. Nose of tobacco, plum, port, brandy, light butter and light wine grape note. Silky, full, thick body, vinous. A bit of roast and wood tannins pop up,more of a buttery note with some plum, wood and buttery sherry/wine flavors. Well-formed and complete, I can imagine it being smoother but overall I’m impressed. I often am not so much a fan of Lost Abbey’s big beers, but I find more in this one than any other. Excellent stuff.
