Commercial Description:
Down in Kentucky and across the pond in Scotland, distillers who age their whiskeys for many years refer to the evaporation of the spirits from their barrels as “The Angel’s Share.” We couldn’t agree more. Our Angel’s Share is a barrel aged burgundy colored ale infused with copious amounts of dark caramel malt to emphasize the vanilla and oak flavors found in freshly emptied brandy barrels. Each batch spends no less than 6 months aging in the oak. The beer is available in 750 ml bottles and on draft at inspired locations.

2008 ABV: 12.5%, gold lettering, 750ml and 375ml, with 2008 on label
2007 ABV: 11.5%, gold lettering, 750ml only
2006 ABV: 10.5%, black lettering, 750ml only

Deep garnet with no head. Wonderful nose. First sip was smooth but there is a ton of alcohol as well. What’s all the fuss?

Rating #1400: 2007 releease - Thanks to the STL crew for sharing this elusive brew. Pours very dark with a reddish hue. The aroma has lots of vanilla, oak, light caramel, milk chocolate and some sourdough. Medium thick body that’s very smooth with minor carbonation on the finish. The flavor starts with lots of grainy oakiness, tons of vanilla and toasty / roasty malt. The finish has a lot of dry woodiness. This seems very nice, but at the same time like drinking pure oak. This will be an interesting one to see how age affects it.

[889-20071201] 1pt9.4floz (Xmas Party 2007, beerhugger & guests). Dark figgy raisin fruit aroma has chocolate Irish cream booze notes. Black brown body with a long-lasting creamy light tan head. Tastes like maple syrup marinated raisins in a wooden barrel. Full body. Lovely balance but I keep hearing that this second batch cannot even touch what the first was like -- too bad for inconsistency reasons, but a fantastic beer nonetheless.
Overheard: "There is some serious sludge in here."

Oh yes, I was very happy to try this! Pours a dark brown with a small tan head head. Aroma of maple, wood, a bit of smoke...so much going on. Tastes of oak, chocolate, coffee, a bit of roast and has a mildly bitter finish. Complex flavor, too much so for being late in the night when my note-taking was so poor. Thick, yet drinkable palate. I can’t wait to try this again, no matter what barrel it’s thrown into.

until the carbonation carbonation takes hold, I’m downrating this beer. It just let me down, considering it HAD been carbonated in the past.

Thanks to Sprinkle for sharing this west coast goodie! Pours a dark dark brown for a barleywine. A full creamy head for a barleywine too. Big seet round nose. Figgy oaky sweet. Fruity oak to cherry... and then there’s that bourbon. And the bourbon barrel Angle’s Share is just straight bourbon or something, eh? Round smooth creamy full rich mouthfeel. Top notch. Big alcoholic bourbon oaky sweetness. Figgy alcoholic fruit with big round malt, softed by the oak. Oaky tannic finish. Did I mention oak? How about bourbon? Lovely beer, really lovely. I’d love to see this with some serious age on it some day.

I’ve been looking forward to this one. Poured a deep brown/black with zero head or lacing. Cork sort of just fell out. Aroma of wood, vanilla and fine liquer. Taste is wood, vanilla, caramel, toffee with a smooth and lasting finish. Hides the alcohol very nicely. Smoother and less complex than I would have expected, but a very nice treat nonetheless. Thanks to naven for the chance to try this.

Pretty good. I can’t believe they didn’t already stick you in a bourbon barrel, because you sure taste like it. Very smooth, it all comes together very nice. You’re also very pretty.

Opaque dark brown with a light brown head that dissipates quickly. Intense malt aroma, with hints of chocolate and brandy. Woodsy and sweet malty taste, the oak comes through nicely. Wonderfully drinkable.
