Commercial Description:
Down in Kentucky and across the pond in Scotland, distillers who age their whiskeys for many years refer to the evaporation of the spirits from their barrels as “The Angel’s Share.” We couldn’t agree more. Our Angel’s Share is a barrel aged burgundy colored ale infused with copious amounts of dark caramel malt to emphasize the vanilla and oak flavors found in freshly emptied brandy barrels. Each batch spends no less than 6 months aging in the oak. The beer is available in 750 ml bottles and on draft at inspired locations.

750, corked and baled. Thanks, after4ever and IBrew2or3! Pours a hazy very dark brown with an off-white head. Boozy oak and sweet toffee aroma. Toffee, caramel and vanilla taste. Semi-sweet oak finish. Maybe it was because I was expecting to be blown away by this beer that I wasn’t. Don’t get me wrong, this is nice stuff. But earth-shattering? No.

10/10/07 Released Bottle: quickly dissipating tan head on top of darkness. Vanilla nose hinting of peach essence,. coffee, and caramel...Flat syrupy malt and astringent grassy bitterness are my first impressiions. There’s essence of whatever spirits were in the oak, but the actual beer itself completely clashes with it. It’s hot, astringently spicey, and the mouthfeel seems overly wet. The throat burns afterwards. I am completely missing it here, unless this new batch is totally different than the previous...I dont know what to think.

2007 750 ml bottle via trade with wetherel - Pours a hazy brown color with a faint off white head. No lacing to mention. Aroma is oak/bourbon, dark esters, molasses, and vanilla. Flavor is sweet malt, dark esters, and vanilla. Medium to full body. I think what sticks out the most about this beer besides the fantastic aroma and flavor, is that it is SO smooth for a relatively young beer. A fantastic beer. Thanks John.

Bottle shared at the Columbus Tasting V, thanks for bringing this one joe: Dark brown pour with a tan head. Aroma, caramel, oak, vanilla, some rich malts. Flavor, caramel, some vanilla, molasses, a bit of alcohol does come through. Just a damn fine barley wine though. Really enjoyable.

06 Bottle shared by Miketd alongside with my 07 from Padrefan98 in trade. Thanks to both of you! This rating of the 06, which I liked a bit better.
Pours almost black, with a light tan head. Smell is vanilla, raisins, dates, sweet dried fruity, and is just bursting out of the glass with goodness. Taste is super rich, smooth creamy sticky malt, vanilla, modest hops, dates, and decadent. Very drinkable. One of my all time favorites.

Thanks to Beer_Hawk for sharing this and the Spring(ish) tasting. A ahzed brown pour with no head and no lace to speak of mostly because of the way I poured it. An aroma of raisins, wood, sweet malt, and oaked bourbon. With an excellent warmth from the abv. An agressive flavor of alcohol followed by a smooth sweetness and lite bourbon flavor. Excellent carbonation, the palate was just a teeny bit on the thin side. This is a very good BW. Thanks steve

courtesy of ibrew2or3. One amazing offering, thanks Dave. ’07 bottle. Pours black, brownish head. Aroma had clearly something more of a brandy barrel, oak and dark fruity(cherry) nose that the latest Angel Share doesn’t have. Taste is as good as always. You really can’t go wrong with this amazing beer. Great use of brandy barrel, dark fruits and good caramel mats. Side by side, the bourbon barrel remains my favorite. Drinkable, well balanced, and a taste that is unique.

750 ml bottle shared by Eyedrinkale. Pours a deep ruby brown, just about black, with a light brown head. Very pleasant aroma of caramel, vanilla, malt, prunes and oak. The flavor is more intense than the aroma with caramel, vanilla, honey, malt, prunes and oak. Lovely smooth buttery texture not unlike a rich chardonnay. Well hidden alcohol. Properly carbonated. Just an excellent beer.
