Commercial Description:
Down in Kentucky and across the pond in Scotland, distillers who age their whiskeys for many years refer to the evaporation of the spirits from their barrels as “The Angel’s Share.” We couldn’t agree more. Our Angel’s Share is a barrel aged burgundy colored ale infused with copious amounts of dark caramel malt to emphasize the vanilla and oak flavors found in freshly emptied brandy barrels. Each batch spends no less than 6 months aging in the oak. The beer is available in 750 ml bottles and on draft at inspired locations.

2008 ABV: 12.5%, gold lettering, 750ml and 375ml, with 2008 on label
2007 ABV: 11.5%, gold lettering, 750ml only
2006 ABV: 10.5%, black lettering, 750ml only

Thanks retorp for the share of this 08 bottle. Pours dark brown with no head whatsoever. Smells like heaven- chocolate, brandy, booze, vanilla, oak, caramel, raisin, dark fruit, and complexity galore. Flavor is relatively the same with just as much going on. Incredibly intense beer, and the lack of carbonation is almost forgivable, but that would only improve this apex of barley wines.

750mL bottle courtesy of KingG poured into a snifter. Been looking for this for quite a while and couldnt wait to pop the cork. It pours dark, dark brown with hints of mahogany showing through the edges. The head was bubbly and short lived and left only traces of lacing. The aroma is huge and complex, and it really opened up as the beer warmed a little. There are tons of dark fruits in there with figs and raisins on top of a brown sugar sweetness. There is some vanilla and brandy as well. The sweetness of the aroma carries over to the taste with the caramel malts and brown sugar underpinning everything else. Dark fruits, vanilla and a slightly more noticeable brandy presence than the aroma suggests. The mouthfeel is slick and almost syrupy with little carbonation. This is a great beer, though i definitely prefer the bourbon version. Very drinkable for the ABV and I look forward to the newest version coming soon.

Thanks to MaltOMeal for this bottle. Dark brown with red hints. Sweet malt and dark fig nose. Taste was a wonderful mix of dark fruits, molasses, vanilla and oak. Mouthfeel was straight-forward. Thanks Bill!

Bottle from my bro (Vac) shared with the crew at the Knoxville Spring(ish) Tasting. Poured dark brown with an off-white head. Unbeatable aroma of nicely blended bourbon, wood, vanilla, fruits, and malts backed with light (but not unpleasant) alcohol and a hint of smoke. The flavor found fruits, spices, and bourbon nicely mixed to form an unforgettable barley wine. Medium to full body, creamy texture, and sweet throughout. A truly exceptional BA. Thanks bro!

12.7 oz bottle from South Bay Drugs. What a treat to have this available at a local spot. I was saving it for when I had a lot of time to spend drinking it and studying it and now was my time. The nose was a sweet blend of caramel and sugary malt with an unbelievable fresh scent of wood. The wood kind of reminded me of woodshop or a freight carrying a whole cargo of cut trees. The flavor was similar to syrup and hid the alcohol content to a well masked factor during the drink. The pour created vigorous head which I didn’t expect and in part I lost a few ounces since I couldn’t control the abruption of the bottle, but I admired it’s view while it rested in my glass. I savored every sip I took of this beer and only had wished it was sold in a bigger bottle so that I could indulge myself fully in it’s taste further.

2008 version, bomber bottle. Pours a dark deep brown with little head. Aroma really hit up as it warmed over time. Lots of sweet notes, dates, plums, vanilla and currants. Flavor was a bit more muted, but still sweet.

Deep burgundy brown pour with little to no head. Notes of brandy and wood in the nose on a sweet, toasted malt wave. Sweet malt flavor with touches of dark, dried fruit and a sharp alcohol bite. Smooth on the palate with a lingering sweetness. Wonderful.
