Poured with zero head. Color is opaque dark brown/black. Aroma is so decadently rich whiskey, malty, coffee, cocoa, sin, fecund earth, worked leather, turkish tobacco. and sinful love. Flav’s about the same. heady. Roasty and chocolate too. Killer. Man, what an expression of beer. msante79 (858), Orland Hills, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 18, 2009 375ml bottle from secret santa. Pours deep murky brown with very small tan head. Aroma is loaded with oak, vanilla, booze, sweet malt, and some dark fruits. Flavor is booze, sweet malt, caramel, dark fruits, oak, and vanilla. This beer packs a shit load of flavor, but unfortunately this beer has major carbonation issues and is rather flat. It has no signs of infection. Based on aroma and flavor this beer could be absolutely epic it there was proper carbonation. Hopefully Tomme can figure the next batch out.

Aroma of oak, caramel malt, vanilla...a nice combonation of bourbon qualities and english barley wine aspects. The flavor brought on lots of bourbon notes as well, oak and vanilla, with more caramel malt coming through. Lively carbonation, a bit boozey...but a good brandy kinda boozey, warming with a dry finish. unclemike (833), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 30, 2009 I’ve been looking forward to this one. Poured a deep brown/black with zero head or lacing. Cork sort of just fell out. Aroma of wood, vanilla and fine liquer. Taste is wood, vanilla, caramel, toffee with a smooth and lasting finish. Hides the alcohol very nicely. Smoother and less complex than I would have expected, but a very nice treat nonetheless. richlikebeer (832), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 13, 2009 been drinking quite a few barley wines lately...BAON and BAOS in the month, so my expectations for this beer were pretty high, and I would be lying if i didnt say i was seriously let down...pour was deep cloudy brown with not a speck of carbonation...it didnt make a sound when we pulled the cork and there was absolutely zero head on the glass. color was nice, and the nose was brandy and oaky. flavors were nice...caramel, fig, brandy, wood but a bit of abv in there as well. the body was sweet and smooth, but again, the alcohol snuck in at the end. dont get me wrong, this was a good beer, and I think with some time it may season well, but the total flatness was a bit shocking, and the abv needs to cool before it is "great" in my book. | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Feb 29, 2008 Updated: Mar 4, 200907 bottle thanks to dirty martini, thanks a bunch Larry. Poured a murky brown color with a moderate tan head that slowly diminished. Aroma of light brandy, sweet caramel malts, and fruit. Flavor consists of light brandy upon entry that leads into a sweet caramel malt flavor with undertones of fruit (apple, pear, and light citrus) with a great drying oak finish with hints of vanilla. Smooth and pretty creamy on the palate, awesome finish. Glad I finally decided to open it up, it was an awesome beer. Thanks again Larry. OSLO (830), Minnesota, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 3, 2009 [’07 bottle, thanks Philsner!] Pours hazy reddish-brown with a light tan head. The aroma has raisin, port, chocolate, some alcohol, plum, vinous notes and vanilla. The taste is sweet, then tart, but not a typical sourness that I have seen with infections, more like fruit skin, as Guerde said. Vanilla, chocolate, oak, various dark fruits and malt at the end. Medium-thick mouthfeel, smooth and had a long, dry finish. Didn’t gush when I opened it, had just about the right level of carbonation, and the tartness that was there worked quite well for it. If this was infected then it is one of the stranger infections I have seen, but regardless it really was quite nice. A very nice barley wine. bgburdman9 (823), Columbus, Ohio, USA
