Commercial Description:
Down in Kentucky and across the pond in Scotland, distillers who age their whiskeys for many years refer to the evaporation of the spirits from their barrels as “The Angel’s Share.” We couldn’t agree more. Our Angel’s Share is a barrel aged burgundy colored ale infused with copious amounts of dark caramel malt to emphasize the vanilla and oak flavors found in freshly emptied brandy barrels. Each batch spends no less than 6 months aging in the oak. The beer is available in 750 ml bottles and on draft at inspired locations.

Pours with a dark reddish-brown body topped by a thin head with some lacing. It’s sweet and malty with nice vanilla and oak notes with underlying dark fruit notes. Full bodied, smooth and slightly warming.

Bottle from cquiroga, sampled with badnewsbeers. Dark brown body with reddish highlights, thin tan head. Leaves good lacing on the glass. Boozy oak and vanilla aroma with toast lurking but buried in barrel. Strong oaky body with brown sugar, toast, and alcohol. Burnt caramely sugars and candied fruits impart sweetness to this high octane oak-alcohol elixir. The rich, sweet body does beg, however, for a bit more complexity and heft. Very nice.

750 ml. Trade with awaisanan. Thanks Andy. Very dense dark brown color with quick dissipating brown head. Aroma of Tobacco, Vanilla and Bourbon not Brandy. All very palatable and well mixed and balanced. Alcohol well hidden and very full bodied without being viscous or sticky. For a very long time the taste was hauntingly familiar. Pannepot no not spicy enough. Brasserie des Rocs no not sharp enough. Gouden Carolus Cuvee Van de Keizer no not sticky sweet enough. Then it hit me it was the overpowering Tobacco taste very similar to Fred from the Wood except much better and much more substance. Is there something with Barleywines and wood that give it a Tobacco taste. The Tobacco taste was not one dimensional like FFTW because it was balanced with a Delicious Caramel taste. If you have every made your own Caramel for homemade caramel ice cream it is exactly the same. A great beer with a cigar. Tatuaje Cojonu Figurado. All in all a good to great beer but not exceptional as the Tobacco taste takes away the Barleywine flavors I enjoy.

750 ml bottle poured a nearly opaque brown with a small lingering tan head. Aromas of bourbon, oak, carmel, dark fruit, light spice and a hint of tobacco. Palate was light to medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of chocolate, figs, bourbon, oak, toffee, light molasses and a hint of spice with a smooth warming lingering oak finish.

Bottle at the RBESG08 Grand Tasting. Dark brown. Lasting beige head. You know when you have a highly rated beer, that you start a little sceptically at it, but by the end this won me over and I was searching for any spare glasses of it by the end. Thick malty rich cake aroma, rather a good beer with really good balance for a strong beer. It’s nice. Good alcoholic, euphoric effect. Hops on finish are balancing to the sweetness. Cool.

Roskilde Festival Tasting. Pours black(?) with a yellowish head. Nice smell of caramel. Very sweet. Strong bourbon flavors. Lots of raisins and caramel. Mellow carbonation. Very full bodied. Bitter finish with a warming alcoburn. Nice one.

Draught as Brandy Barrel edition. Hazy dark brown body with a creamy head. Lots of caramel, bourbon, vanilla and barley in aroma. Sweet malty flavour with lots of caramel, hops and bourbon or brandy. Light alcohol notes. Creamy body. Loved it.

Courtesy of Dunk. Pours a murky brown, with a small swirly light cream colored head. Smells of vagrant apple brandy aromas, Belgian malts, oak, and caramel notes. The flavor has a good bit of the apple brandy flavor that I got in the nose and a good dose of oak as well. The alcohol was slightly noticeable and had some mild burn going down the throat. Seemingly well balanced though for a barrel aged brew. Full on flavor and well crafted. Maybe didnt totally live up to my high expectations, but certainly didnt disappoint.
