4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: FEB 16, 2010 Rating #200, and rating #30 of the Top 50 rated beers (as of right now anyway)! 750ml, 2006 bottle, with a giant THANK YOU to drewbeerme for this gem! Pours a dark brown/black with a moderate foamy tan head that dissipates down to a thin but persistent covering, slight lacing. Absolutely amazing aroma of dark fruits, raisin, plum, black cherry, vanilla, oak, chocolate, and just a whiff of brandy or cognac maybe. Stunning! Flavor delivers and then some on the aromatic complexity, following through with more oak, vanilla, plenty of caramel maltiness, done just right, and slight warming. Palate is full and smooth, with a gentle touch of carbonation and a moderately lingering finish that drifts off gently, begging to prolong the time to enjoy as much as possible. This one delivers on all fronts!

4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 20/20
Poured a muddy dark brown with little bit of head and lots of lacing. Lots of vanilla and caramel, lots of brandy barrel but well balanced. Overall it was an awesome beer, the barrel aging was done perfectly and the 14% abv was well hidden

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
At almost 15% we don’t expect any lacing or head retention, and we get none. Smells like brandy, butterscotch and raisins. Tastes identical to that with a buttery, rich finish. A nice winter beer but not one that you have several of.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Brandy brarrel version. Love the raisens and oak that really steer This beer. Lots of burnt cInnamon as well. Comparing this to the burbon barrel. The burbon may be my favorite of the two. The burbon may be a bit more smooth.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Taster at The Beer Store, SF. Pours chestnut with a foamy tan head. Nose is molasses, vanilla, caramel, dark dried fruit, and brandy. Flavour is dark roasted malts, charred oak, brandy, raisin, fig, leafy decay, and huge vanilla and caramel. Outstanding American strong ale. Or is this a barleywine? Either way fantastic.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Slightly bitter, malt, rich caramel, aged character... too much tannine aftertaste for me. Something isn’t rightly combined, maybe the malt and oak/brandy? Nice booze and full flavours. Should retry on draught.
