Commercial Description:
Down in Kentucky and across the pond in Scotland, distillers who age their whiskeys for many years refer to the evaporation of the spirits from their barrels as “The Angel’s Share.” We couldn’t agree more. Our Angel's Share is a barrel aged burgundy colored ale infused with copious amounts of dark caramel malt to emphasize the vanilla and oak flavors found in freshly emptied brandy barrels. Each batch spends no less than 6 months aging in the oak. The beer is available in 750 ml bottles and on draft at inspired locations.

750ml bottle generously shared by Stine. Aroma of brandy soaked fings and raisins. Toasted vanilla. Soaked oak chips, tobacco leaf. Malt and wood in excellent balance. Pours an unremarkable dark ruby brown with a thin khaki head. Big brandy presence on the tongue. Loads of big, rich, toasted caramel malt. Vanilla. Wet wood. Rum soaked fruits. Cherries, plums and maple syrup. Toasted almond and cashew. Big nutty characteristic as the beer opens. Full bodied. Lush and creamy with a decent boozy finish. Lots of spicy brandy on the finish. Thanks a ton Eben!

Dark brown color, tan head. Sweet, chocolate and oak scent. Sweet, raissin taste. Warming alcohol. Medium to full mouthfeel, medium bitterness.

RBESG08 grand tasting.
Poured a dark red brown body with a small tan head. Pungent yoghurty malty nose, notes of smoke and whiskey. Complex malty taste. Coffee, yoghurt, alcohol (whiskey?). Still, not the best beer I’ve ever had.

4 oz taste at the Seattle IBF. Something special, for sure. Pours a deep, dark cola brown with a thick, dense head. First impression on the aroma was roasty sweet malts, with notes of brandy, oak, deep malts and just enough hops to counter the depth of the brew. Taste is like a fine blend of a Belgian quad / brown ale (think SB Abt. 12 meets Nostradamus), with prominent notes of chocolate, brandy, dark fruits (figs, dates), a bit of smoke (perhaps going as far as coffee), caramel and cloves. More than anything, I noticed how my mouth kept salivating with each sip - it coated thoroughly and left me wanting more. Heavily carbonated, and a decent alcohol burn (our bottle was labeled 12.5%). By far the best Lost Abbey effort I’ve tasted, and I feel lucky to have been able to try it. Wonderful stuff.

Sampled at the RSBEG08 grand tasting. Murky brown with medium beige head. Very complex malt aroma with vanilla and coconut, dark fruits, and some warming alcohol. Medium bodied and very smooth, almost chewy. Very well balanced. A truly great beer.
