jerc (3114), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 14, 2007 Updated: Dec 4, 2007 Bottle. Ratebeer Christmas in Oshawa, December 2007. I believe it was indicated that this was recently released version? Very dark brown body with a modest creamy tan head (3+). Lightly woody character is my first impression of the aroma, sweet underlying malt,
dark fruit notes. Wood brings a touch of alcohol with it and then later a moderate amount of vanilla as the glass warms up. The flavour starts out a touch rough, partly due to wood and alcohol character, and partly due to the realization that it does not taste the same as my last sample. Sweet malt follows behind that initial impression. Somewhat dry alcoholic finish leaves a warming glow in the mouth with a boozy finish. Medium palate has low carbonation. Not sure if the beer is different or if I am, but this was just pretty good, where the last sample was superb, and it is a fairly large disappointment because of that. 8/3+/8/3/16-17 - 4.0

<P>July 2007. Bottle shared at beerbistro by dtseen. Black body with a rich creamy brown head and some lacing on the glass. Rich aroma with complex malt and prominent yet graceful alcohol. (8+) Flavour is likewise quite malty with just enough bitterness and alcohol presence to balance the sweetness. Lingering tangy malt with note of bitterness and gloriousness I like the verbiage to elaborate on at this time. Creamy smooth palate floats on the tongue. Whispers of anise in the aftertaste. I eventually gave up trying to keep my notes up with my thought process and finished with "F**K YEAH!" First beer to knock my socks off like this in a long time! Thanks again for sharing Dave! 9/5/40/5/20 - 4.9
General_Gao (2509), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Sep 1, 2008 Thanks to iowaherkeye for bringing this bottle to his ’farewell to Iowa’ tasting. 2007 vintage. Poured a clear garnet color with a khaki head. Smelled of booze, brown sugar, toffee, and a hint of anise. Full bodied, sweet, and boozy. Tasted predominantly of brown sugar, vanilla, and booze with dashes of cinnamon and distinct salt. I also got a bit of sassafras. Good beer, but somewhat overrated, IMO. marchcow (492), Coralville, Iowa, USA Aug 31, 2008 Bottle from Iowaherkeye - thanks Joey. Light oaken aroma and some dried fruit. Rich malty and hops flavors with a touch of alcohol, cream cheese, caramel and dried fruit. Good strong flavors. Creamy and rich palate with a bourbonesque duration. Very good. ChristianScheffel (2104), Odense, Denmark Aug 29, 2008 Bottled at RBESG. Brown with a small light brown head.
