Bottle. WOW. This is a serious grail. Cracked during the Masters with Simon. Pours a deep plum brownish color with multiple shades of brown throughout the beer. Lacing is a ring just around the outer glass, tiny clear bubbles of varying size. Taste and aroma is predominately 2003 Cuvee which was my favorite sour to date. Back end aromas of cherries, brett, oak, raspberry sourness. Midway through a sip it turns to a bourbon vanilla profile from the Old Visc. Finally in the finish it tastes like Winnie the Pooh took a shit in this beer and the gift was succulent honey mead notes ridden throughout my mouth especially in the aftertaste. Awesome lambic style sour ale and a real treasure of a find.

Draft. Sampled at Monk’s Cafe Lost Abbey Dinner 2/6/07. I read about this beer in Tomme’s blog last month, and I couldn’t wait to sample it. This is a mix of three beers, including Cuvee de Tomme brewed in 2003. The beer poured cloudy dark brown with a moderate sized off-white head. The aroma was beautiful - red wine tannins, as well as the tart qualities of a flemish sour. Tartness comes through on the initial sip. Very vinous. Fruit (cherries) and wood on the following sips. A bit of citrus character hidden in the background. Seemed like a flemish sour mixed with red wine. Fantastic!

Thanks Julian for bringing this in to share.Had this in Carlsbad at the Pizza Port Belgianfest after fest tasting with floydster and seaoflament and rallison. Wow this beer was so carboniated and had a seltzer tingle on your tongue when you drank it. I would say champange or austi spumanti.Flavors of sweet Cinnamon applesauce like Motts. Alcohol was vertually non present for 8 percent. This was a very surprising incredible flavor that was a real treat. One of the better beer I have ever had. Carbonation was over the top and was a true gusher when it was opened. Thanks again for the share and the chance to enjoy this true treat of a beer!

Very cloudy brownish/toffee colored pour. Aroma is a super blend of dark cherry fruit, tart vinegar notes and some wet oak notes. Flavor is tart and fruity. I get tart cherries, rich wine notes, vinegar tartness...damn good. Im very glad to get to try this one.

UPDATED: MAR 25, 2009 Bottle #69 that I bottled myself at the 1st Annual Barrel Tasting Event at the brewery. Very cool event. Finally popping this bad boy with some of the Tampa crew. Pours clear brown with copper hues and tiny off white head. The aroma is full of drool inducing ripe cherries and wood but preceded by some tartness that moves slowly into faint funk. All those notes are followed by a lingering soft cherry goodness at the end of the draw. Very nice complex nose that I can ponder for days. I also get growing smooth oaky wood notes with additional draws. The taste has rich ripe cherries along with some tart cherries moving into smooth oak wood notes and a mild growing tartness. By midway it becomes dry and refreshing. As the finish approaches wood and cherries escort your palate to the after taste with only a background of tartness and a front to back mild funkiness. Refreshing and just plain old yum. Wish I had one more to age further to see where this one goes.

Bottle from 2007 Barrel tasting. Brown amber color with no head to speak of. Aromas of funk and cherry. Very smooth medium body. Tart slighty sour ness with dark cherry, grape, and a slight citrus flavor. Very easy to drink with a fantastic long finish of flavors. Fantastic beer.

Rating #700. Bottle #69, courtesy ibrew2or3, who personally handbottled this bad boy at the brewery in November 2007. Way to go Dave, you inspire us all. Pours a ruddy brown color, with a caramel reddish hazy and very little head, and no lacing, practically. Nose is tart cherries, some caramel, brown sugar, and a tint of chocolate. Flavor is sweet and sour. Caramel, cherries, some chocolate. Very woodsy and full of oak. Some flowery notes round out the flavor. Very yummy. Drinkability is very high as expected with these great Lost Abbey blends. Incredibly good overall. Very pleased to have tried this very rare treat.

The beer poured a deep redish/brown color with a slight but tanish/red right around the glass. The nose was complex with a tart aroma complimented by a wine grape feel, maybe cherry on the nose as well. The taste was tart, a bit funky and definitely had some vinous qualities to it. As I let it sit a little longer it warmed and brought out some dried fruit and even a bit of grapefruit on the tongue. All this making for a somewhat full bodied beer that was just enjoyable.

EBF 2007. One of my favorites at the fest. Pours a deep hazy amber/ with woody brown highlights and a sticky lasting head. Aroma is sour cherry, brett, funk, a wierd sugary sweetness, some lacto sourness and barnyard funky- slightly cheesy. Nice tart flavor, wine-like, grapeskin, tannic, sharp sourness with more cherry pit, and almond astringency especially at the end. Good body with a nice sour tart finish and some woody notes. Great blend.

Bottle… This beer rocks!… Murky caramel-colored ale with no head. The nose is just a fantastic blend of caramel, cherries and berry acidity with a kiss of acetic red wine. Full-bodied with a milky mouthfeel and nearly expired carbonation. The flavor is all about tart cherries, tangy red wine and toffee sweetness… the acidity reigns. Finishes fruity and tart with lots of cherries. Kudos to OrlGamecock for sharing the bottle!
