Enniskillen (1542), Port Angeles, Washington, USA May 5, 2008 Hazy brown with a thin white head. Aroma is cherries, funk, yeast, light caramel. Taste is lightly funky, cherries, faint hops, and yeast. Awesome brew.
mreusch (442), Olathe, Kansas, USA Aug 19, 2008 750ml bottle, with a huge thanks to Ryan (giarcsr) for the chance to try this! A bit of a gusher, but started with it plenty cool to keep the foam down. Pours a murky amber brown with a sizable foamy tan head that slowly drifts down to a thin spotty covering. Aroma is well rounded, with sour cherry, vanilla, some funk, oak, and on - lots there for sure, and really blends nicely when it warms! Flavor starts with a moderate sourness that moves into dark fruits, pinot noir notes, spice and oak. The flavor seems to move around a bit with each taste until it warms more, but maintains nice sour, spice and pinot noir qualities overall. Very interesting and good stuff, thanks again Ryan! illinismitty (1397), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Aug 14, 2008 Bottle at RBSG. I forgot my measuring cup to ensure that my pour was adequate to meet Ross’ approval for rating entry. I am going to give myself the benefit of the doubt. Pours a murky amber with a light beige head. Perfect mouthfeel and texture- wow. Nose of christmas spices and dark sugary malts. Flavor of dark fruits, cinnamon, banana, caramel, chocolate, and a hint of brett. Semi dry and oaky finish with some very small citrus accents. Great beer that will go on my wants list
illidurit (387), Santa Cruz, California, USA Aug 8, 2008 Not sure who brought this to the RBSG 08 Grand Tasting but thanks. Pours a muddy brown color with a big tan head that leaves gobs of lacing. Aromas of brown sugar and spices. Flavor gets a big dose of caramel from Angel’s Share, an apple/banana fruitiness and spice from Amazing Grace, and a bretty cherry funk from Cuvee de Tomme. Very interesting and tasty blend. Very effervescent, full bodied and smooth. gunhaver (610), Tampa, Florida, USA Aug 6, 2008 ~RBSG ’08~
Bottle at the Grand Tasting. Pours a brown murky red color. Cloudy, with a creamy head. Tons of lacing. Nice funk texture in the nose, caramel, some bananas. Fairly spicy. Flavors of raisin, caramel, chocolate, slight funk and banana. Crisp and refreshing, smooth and drinkable. Took a lot of the best combinations of the three beers and made something unique and enjoyable. BBB63 (3767), La Porte, Indiana, USA Jul 28, 2008 Corked bottle and served in my Duval snifter: Hazy purple ruby hue with a MASSIVE initial head due to carbonation and very nice lace. The aroma has notes of plum wine, cherries, mango, bourbon, oak and vanilla, some herbal hops and a hint of white pepper. The taste has a nice lacto twang and funk over a layer of fruity acidity supported by vanilla and Carmel malts. Bone dry oak barrel tannic finish. The mouth feel is very lively and refreshing for something this big, only slightly warming and boozy. MIKEY LIKEY and only wishes he could have more.
