2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 oteyj (2114) - New Hampshire, USA - JUL 31, 2011
This beer is god awful. Brown pour lacking any carbonation whatsoever. Lots of buttery vanilla and brine in the nose, with obtrusively conspicuous ethanol, and messy dark fruit sugars. The flavor is ultra sour, with diacetyl, vanilla bourbon, booze and cherries abounding. Imagine blending cider vinegar, butter, vanilla extract, and raisins, and aging it way too long. The mouthfeel is oily with no carbonation, sitting on the tongue with no satisfaction.

Thanks to jblauvs for this one. Dark brown pour with no carbonation. Nose is buttery with caramel and some fruit. Flavor holds big acidic sour fruit and more butterscotch. Very disappointing.

Bottle... This beer rocks!… Pours cloudy and dark brown with no head. The bouquet presents a complex, malty and decadent marriage of fudge, vanilla, milk chocolate, vanilla and caramel to facets of acidic red wine and funky fallen oak. Full-bodied with a milky mouthfeel and only trace carbonation. The flavor is both roasty and sour – brownie, fudge, singed caramel, funky oak and dry, acidic wine. Finishes tart and fruity with a lingering tanginess. Excellent. Another world class bottle of beer provided by richiesd!

Opaque brown-black that thins out to a dark, burnished bronze at the rim. Virtually non-existent head. Dark caramel malt aromas with strong vanilla and oxidative notes followed by softly sweet alcohol notes and spice. Dark fruit tannins in the very background. True melding of complex dark malt notes and a delicate yet prominent tartness with very dark fruit flavors. Sweet malt core is surrounded by a dense, dark malt profile. Bourbon barrel aging aspects are very strong with notes of caramel, vanilla, and booze. Big body—massively full with balancing tartness and oxidative complexities with a long, warm alcohol finish.

Big thanks to hopscotch for sharing this bottle. Purplish brown pour with no head. All kinds of Angel’s Share in the nose. Wow, what an outstanding ale. Amazing cabernet, chocolate malt, and acidic cherry flavors. Superbly balanced. Another freakin’ stunner from Tommy and his crew....

Lost Abbey Veritas 009. 750ml bottle Thx to Tom... Pours a deeper viscous colar semi-stouty cola deeper brown pour and crowned with a barely existent soft tan head...
Aroma is vinous and softly roasty with chcoclate and balancing sour notes. Vinegar and a slight acetone nature... Flavor with bourbon woody notes, extremely vinous alongside some darker chocolate qualities, sour cherries and a vinous nature as it’s base and provides a perfect back splashing. Body is medium to full with a semi-winelike promise. Very lightly carbonated but the acidity level holds it in check. Firm full natured in both flavor an body with a dirty red wine aspect to it. Solid all around.

(750ml bottle) Pours a still dark brown body. Aroma of vinous, raisins, cherries, toffee, vanilla, and caramel. Flavor of vinous, sour cherries, caramel, oak, subtle bourbon, balsamic, dark chocolate, raisins, and plum. Hope to try this again with some age on it.

(750ml bottle shared by Dak!). Pours dark brown with a slight tan head. No carbonation. Aroma has booze, fruit, wood, berries and balsamic. Taste is sweet and tart (balsamic again). Very wine-like. Medium bodied with a sticky texture. Dry finish. A unique beer that works well even without the carbonation.

Bottle shared by madtowndmb1...thanks Kyle! - Pours deep dark cola with next to no head. Smells of burnt brown sugar, with caramel, red wine, and a bit of heat. Taste is sweet, with red wine and brown sugar. Little carbonation in this one, with a decent, full body. Really interesting--the interplay between the red wine and the bourbon barrel is something I really haven’t tasted before. Very interesting.

Inky dark pour. No bubbles. aroma is dark, dried cherries, cranberries, rich and aged balsamic, red wine, oak. Wow. Flavor is sour but not mouth puckering. Lots of sweet balsamic, deep currants, red wine. Oak. Just delicious! I really enjoyed this. Needs no carbonation IMO.
