COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Veritas 011 is a Barleywine aged in McCall Cognac Barrels for 11 months. We added some fresh nectarines over the summer and hit it with a splash of Brett Clausenii.

It is not sour and may only develop a bit a fruity Brett qualities over time, so we aren’t expecting a full blown sour ale. ABV is 12.85%.

Bottle 019. Thanks to Rich for acquiring and GT for transporting. Served in a glass. Pours a cloudy amber-brown with a transient stale, off white head. Head fades to a thin bubbly collar and thin streaks of lace. Aroma is very warm and boozy; cognac up front, with a young raw and resiny barleywine. Lemon, tangerine, schnapps and sugar throughout. Aroma turns into rubbing alcohol as it warms. Thicker side of medium body, coats palate with a syrupy finish; soft and subtle carbonation. Chewy flavor, pulpy and resiny sugars with nectarine and strawberry fruit. Surprisingly no alcohol presence or burn in flavor, though finish is extremely warm. Brett hasn’t done much yet, I sort of like the fruitiness and am happy to have tried this fresh.

Bottle. Hazy deep copper liquid with minimal white head. Aroma of toffee, light wood, Cognac, nectarine, caramel, raw sugar and light Brett. Taste is light to medium sweet and light bitter with notes of caramel, raw sugar, bread and wood. Full bodied with low carbonation. Decent, but messy.

Bottle at RBSG thanks to Jer. Pours a cloudy dark orange color with a medium white head. A big sweet malty nose, fruit and oak. The flavor is heavily a sugary sweet English style BW, huge dark caramel and dry wood, some fruity sweet elements. The Brett is adding tropical fruit and dust, just awesome.

Bottle thanks to Jer. A: Cloudy brown/gold, no head. N: Fig, leather, oxidation, metallic elements, caramel, and toffee. A bit of cognac in here, but no noticeable nectarine at this point. T: Broken down sweetness that’s cloying. M: Medium oily body, some alcohol. O: Thinking this one was better fresh. Seems to be oxidizing pretty heavily at this point; I really wouldn’t want this again.

This was a bottle from the vertical tasting of Veritas at the RBSG. Pored brown with no appreciable head. Nose is ripe fruit and the brett presence is there. Medium plus in body. The flavor is brown sugar, raisins, and vanilla, and some fermented fruit. Some alcohol shows in the sweet finish. This has been my least favorite in the series. I think I could have done without the brett.

750mL bottle, pours a deep dark murky brown with no head. Nose brings out murky stone fruits and funky brett. Flavour is cloyingly sweet, with stone fruits, oxidation and candied sugar. Not really that complex. The brett is awkward here. Very strange beer. It’s cool to sip but I wouldn’t want much.
