Veritas 011 is a Barleywine aged in McCall Cognac Barrels for 11 months. We added some fresh nectarines over the summer and hit it with a splash of Brett Clausenii.

It is not sour and may only develop a bit a fruity Brett qualities over time, so we arenít expecting a full blown sour ale. ABV is 12.85%.

December 27, 2014 - bottle shared by Brett, bottle 205. Brown pour with limited bubbly head. Aroma was fruity, red wine, toffee / caramel and some alcohol. Taste was very sweet initially, then fruity and finished with a mildly tart alcohol. I had wanted to try this for a while so thanks big time to Brett!

Bottle... Poured red with a thin head. Tasted if sweet malts with dark fruits and vinous barrel chardcters. Smooth, mild alcohol presence. Hints of cocoa, vanilla, oak, and a very slight oxidation note.

Bottle @ 10K + OT. Thanks, Jer. Hazy copper pour with a khaki head. Nose of peach, nectarine, and vanilla. Brown sugar, golden raisin, and some vanilla. Light barrel and booze. Subtle tartness. Good sweet sugar and fruit character. Fair amount of nectarine, some vanilla, and brandy. Caramel maltiness, some golden raisin, light leather, and triple sec. Kind of sour on the finish. Not bad.

24/XII/13 - 75cl bottle @ De Hopduvel (Gent) - batch# 11 - BB: n/a (2013-1174) Thanks to Bobochamp for sharing the bottle!

Clear pale red brown beer, small irregular aery head, little stable. Aroma: caramel, vanilla, milk chocolate, bourbon, alcohol, some mocha, sweet malts. MF: soft to no carbon, medium to full body. Taste: alcohol, sugary, caramel, bourbon notes, some overripe banana, somewhat sweet, bit fruity. Canít tell the nectarines though. Aftertaste: caramel, bit metallic, banana, alcohol warming the throat, bit sugary, bitter hops, hint of mocha, bubble gum and fruity candy.

Bottle shared by Kan, I think. Thanks! Pours a deep brown, ruddy near read with a thin tan head. Nose is really cool. Moderate plums and acid, rich caramel and low roast notes. On tasting, cocoa and coconut, tart fruit, pineapple and plums. Moderate tart notes that somehow work. Not overly sweet or bitter. Very warming with good barrel presence. Really nice beer and shocked that it worked.

Batch #011, Bottle 211 : Poured into Lost Abbey stemware ; I really had to coax the head out of this one, and even then I found it modest. Its a deep golden brown with a modest, fine bubbled off white head, with some light lacing present. It rings and hazes the glass fairly quickly. The nose lends itself to a deep fruit presence. I sense tropicals, the nectarines are present in abundance, and it moves to the barrel treatment and malt notes. The nose is the highlight here, quite. The flavor profile reveals earthen tones, with robust sweet elements that fuse with the fruitiness present here. Itís a little hot, and there is a bit of booze near the finish; Listed as 12.85%, the bottle says 8.0%. I donít get the discrepancy - but I assume 12.85% is it. Anyway - this one lingers on the tongue, reminding that its a Barleywine. Its not altogether unpleasant. Anyway - an interesting concept, a unique experience, and a brew that doesnít altogether come together perfectly.

750 ml bottle shared by pantanap. Thanks, Kan! Was just gonna put out an ISO for this! Pours rich deeply hazed brownish pour, frothy loose whitish head dies to ring, laces ok. Deeper hues in the middle, mellow carbonation. Aromas show nectartine, caramel, and toffee. A touch of toastiness, oak, and vanilla. Some barrel presence, toffee, and toast. Some nectarine fruit, mellow funk and brett. A touch sweet, touch of oxidation. A bit sticky. Initial medium bodied, a bit more full with a touch of red fruit, gentle nectarine, sticky caramel and toffee. Touches of spice, some dry deadened hops. Some touches of oak, vanilla, and a gentle growing stickiness. Vanilla, a bit of toffee into the middle. Some orangesn gentle nectarine, gentle carmelized and sticky feel. Some gentle brett, softens a bit of the blow and kills some of what of been sweeter. Some tartness, gentle nectarine acidity. Gentle brett, oak, vanilla. A bit of stickiness, carmelized, touch of brett, funk, sticky elements linger on. A touch of that nectarine, orange, and and sweeter malts, a bit deadened by the brett. Some decent toast, carmelized and sweet elements trail on. Mellow brett. Solid. A bit odd for these warmer months but a really nice flow here for a Barleywine, a bit of a more complex brett touch. Honor to try.
