Draft at Dexters. Thick murky red-brown. Steady beige head. Mellow aroma. Full bodied, a rich malt centered ale with some pleasant hoppy edges. Well balanced and drinkable. Rich, with some warming amber-vanilla tones. Creamy, mellow carbonation. A little more hop character wouldn’t have hurt, but still a well executed strong amber.

Tap at Naja’s. Pours hazy amber with an average, creamy cream colored head, long retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is average malt (bread, cookie, caramel), light hops (floral), and average esters (berry) with notes of alcohol. Flavor is heavy malt (bread, cookie, caramel, cereal), average hops (floral, earthy, herbal), and average esters (berry) with notes of alcohol and aspartame. Medium body, warmth, and carbonation, and creaminess with a sweet finish. Any beer that tastes like Sweet N Low got added is bad, and this one is no exception, though it may be Equal I was tasting. Wow! I hope I brew better than this after 20 years.

12/29/10. On tap in a pint glass. Cloudy deep red pour with a small off-white head that fades to a film fast. Sweet malty aroma with hints of spice and nuts. Nice sweet malty flavor with spice, nuts, apple peel, and more. Not bad!

obguthr (2583) - Poquoson, Virginia, USA - DEC 19, 2010
Draft @ Green Leafe Cafe Williamsburg VA Christmas Beer Tasting: Faint woody orange peel aroma. Clear copper, no head. Dry and woody from start to finish. Some malt and cherry notes are present, but dominated by oak. Alcohol barely noticeable. Not terribly bitter or sweet, just dry and oaky, only moderately strong.

Strykzone (3135) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - DEC 9, 2010
12 oz. bottle generously sent by Hayduke. Shared at the East Side Bottle Liberation Society tasting. A copper hue with a nice off white head. A complex aroma and taste. There was so much going on in this beer and all of it subtle, well balanced, and delicious. Caramel, dark fruit, citrus, and yeast. This one doesn’t jump out but certainly kept the interest with subtle complexity.

hayduke (2538) - Eureka, California, USA - NOV 12, 2010
This barley wine poured a dark amber with a fat off-white head. Solid body and good mouthfeel. The nose is of caramel malts with a hint of ripe fruit,. Flavor is malty with some light hoppy bitterness and the finish is lightly bitter on top of some more of the fruit. Alcohol is present. Easy drinking and quite enjoyable.

On tap at the Alibi Room, pour dark red. Aroma of dark fruits, berries and caramel malts. Flavour of muted berries / dark fruits and caramel malts. Unspectacular but solid.
