Pour is neon green with an egg yolk cap. Nose is mostly coffee and chocolate with a bit of roasted grain. This is surprisingly dry for something thatís in the sweet stout category. Carbonation is nice, and the texture is creamy, but itís a touch watery too. Serviceable stout.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle, affordable surprise2 at Village de la BiŤre, Strasbourg I/2015. Light-bodied, subtly flavourful stout, nicely balancing pronounced roast and chocolate malt notes with filter coffee on a near-fizzy palate. A second, later wave reveals the prominent earthy berry hop back behind this less-than-sweet, not-quite-sturdy stout. Clean, refreshing finish. Not the post pranzo mouth coater I was expecting, but enjoyable as a clean piece of brewing art all the same.

Pours an almost opaque black with a huge frothy brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and creamy latte. Taste is sweet cocoa, chocolate, coffee, roasted malts and a awesome creamy mouthfeel. Well balanced and delicious.

Big bottle into a plastic cup in my hotel. Great find at the bodego. Not much aroma. Dark. Decent pale head. Chocolate coffee aroma and taste. Smooth mild bitterness. Tasty.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark rich burgundy with an off white head. Aroma of roast and caramel, with a drier roast and ash character coming out more as beer warms. Taste of to roast, toast, and some ash and coffee notes. The "sweet" part of the beer is definitely noticeable, as is it is not nearly as dry as a dry stout. Light to medium body and lower carbonation make this beer very drinkable. A nice example of the style.

Dark black. Smells chocolately. Tastes like milk chocolate. Sweet. Somewhat buttery. Slightly roasted. Vanilla. Some hops cut through at the end of the taste. This is really enjoyable.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
650ml bottle. Pours black with clear crimson highlights when held up to the light, and a two finger beige head. Cocoa, dark roast coffee, mineral notes, and light ashy notes on the nose. Medium bodied with light ash, coffee, mild acidity, and molasses that continues on almost the same as it starts with some dark chocolate, and citrus in the bitter finish. Itís a solid session stout. No complaints.
