Not for the faint hearted! Our stout rewards the palate with robust flavor of roasted malts (malts are roasted like coffee beans) and heavy hops. A creamy smooth surprise.

The first time I had this beer was my freshman year of college, when my old and wiser roommate told me, in a Jesus-like manner, to put down my PBR and follow him. Just like with Jesus’ disciples, it took a while for me to clearly understand this holy message, but I eventually got it. This beer was tasty then, and it has only become better with age.

Bottle at Brewerkz, Riverside Point, Singapore. Poured a clear medium brown with a broken light tan head. The flavour is caramel liqourice malt. The flavour is medium sweet, with a rich malty liqourice bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Aroma is roasted malts, oats, caramel, toffee and light clove. Taste is the same with some medium bitterness on the tip. The rich malt body does however finish fairly watered down. Appearance is a dark amber with a thin pearl head that retains fairly well.

Californian oatmeal stout with irregular, medium thick, lacing, pale beige head with moderate retention and very dark chestnut brown colour with burgundy hue - not entirely black and translucent on the edges. Assertive and pleasing aroma involves a great deal of roasted coffee beans and cold black coffee along with black peppercorns, bitter chocolate, salmiac, beef jerky, burnt pipe tobacco, bayleaf, old leather, bitter orange peel, burning leaves, ’natural’ iron blent in nicely, old walnuts, unsugared dried figs, paper ashes, straw. Taste is softer, rounded and less bitter than expected based on the aroma: restrained raisin and dried berry sweetishness at first surrounded by a low, basic sourishness, perhaps a kind of ’grain sourishness’ probably coming from the oatmeal, meaty umami accents, soft carbo, very smooth and oily body gliding effortlessly over the tongue (as usual with oatmeal stouts) but a bit on the thin side, caramelly and nutty maltiness, toasted, becoming bitter in the end and even a bit ’ashy’ (so it does meet the aroma after all), there a peppery, spicy, leafy hop bitterness appears as well, perhaps just a tad too much for the oatmeal stout style, but with a very pleasant drying effect, though the initial sourishness remains in the back of the mouth as well. Very ’American’ in being hoppier than the classic English or Scottish oatmeal stouts; could perhaps do with a bit more body and a bit more emphasis on sweetness, but I sure enjoyed it.

Bottle. Dark brown in color. Medium head that quickly disappears. Aroma is coffee, burnt grains and citrusy hops. Taste had way too much hops for a stout.

Black creamy white head.. Good lace. Roasty berry nut aroma, dark chocolate/cocoa. Woody cherry. Taste is robust, roasty, citric bite, almost tart finish with the citric. Mild planty, berry notes, assertive bitter. Robust sweet stout. Pretty roasty and citric. Herbal citrus hops perhaps.

At cellar temperature and into a chalice. Heavy sediment settles swiftly. The body black as black. Head lights up off the pour to settle a dense quarter inch with little lace but good legs. Dry, dusty, topsoil earthiness to the aroma with nuances of fresh strapped leather, molasses, burnt toffee and lightly roasted coffee bean. Quite smooth, bold, big, voluptuous and silky, velvety. Bitter coffee and chocolate malt finish. Earthy, malt dominated palate with light spice in back. Light smoke, burnt wood linger is long matched by dusty chocolate. Absolutely balanced to the nines, Holds all the qualms of a solid stout. Plump, and rounded. Beautiful!! (12fl.Oz, No date stamp, Int’l Beer Shop, Leederville)
