4.2 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
We did a blind taste test between this beer and 4 other amber ales to objectively determine which one was best. The beers were Full Sail Amber, Anderson Valley Boont Amber Ale, New Belgium Fat Tire, Lost Coast Alleycat, and Alaskan Amber. You can watch the video here to see who won:

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Surprised by the low ratings. This beer is well balanced with great flavor, solid on the nose, with a pleasant mouthfeel. This beer would pair with a number of lunch menu items: brats, veggie burgers, or just a good old American cheeseburger. The hotter it gets outside, the better it tastes. Balanced and not over-filling, so be ready to open up a second one. Another great value at a reasonable price-point from Lost Coast.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours dark amber red with a small white head. Head retention is poor. AROMA: yeast esters, malt, caramel, slight saison note, slight peppercorn, bread, orange and herbs. TASTE: malt, caramel, slight saison funk, bread, orange, slight hop bitterness, yeast, slight peppercorn, light herbs and very light citrus. I might be tasting one past its prime seeing how it’s 5/192015 and the brews was bottled nearly7 months ago on 10/31/2014. Will need to review with a fresher sample.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from Sake Taniguchi (World Beer Market). Good roast malt nose, fruity and spicy hop. Orange/amber color, thin spotty head. Solid caramel initial, rich and tasty, moderate raost malt, light bitterness, and a gentle sweet finish. Thin body, a touch watery. Well-balanced overall. Small but distinct fruity sweetness and hop bitterness.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20

Bottle at San Juan. Clear copper color, steady off-white head. Bready and Earthy aroma. Light to medium-bodied. Bready, slightly fruity, caramelly. Finish has touch of citrus and alcohol. Probably needs to be more fresh.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
This is one top notch and tasty brew. Dark copper color, a small skin of head, streaky lacing. Caramel, malt with a light hop accent. Mildly sweet with a hint of stinging bitterness. Really, really enjoyable.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
4oz on tap at Ei8ht Ball a few weeks ago. Mostly hazy amber orange color. Thin off-white head, leaving good thicker sheets of lace. Medium-plus body. Smooth, kind of crisp, light carbonation. Kind of slick texture. Caramel, and toasty malt, light earthy hop. Good bit of piney hop (simcoe?). Moderate-plus sweet taste, light to moderate bitter. A solid, maltier amber ale, but not too sweet. Balanced.
