Growler... Murky prune-colored ale with a small, frothy, off-white head. The aroma is of coffee and cocoa powder. The flavor is nothing other than watered down coffee. Light to medium-bodied with fizzy carbonation. Crisp, lightly bitter finish. Although I didn’t love it, thanks to redlight for sending this growler to the Tampa gathering via SoLan! I was really looking forward to giving this one a go!

Draft at the old RLRL. Pour some already brewed coffee into your glass of regulat double porter and this is what you’ll get. A little less weight to the body, as expected. Coffee doesn’t come across as quality. From notes.

On tap at Lucky Baldwin’s Delirium Cafe, November 2007: Pours a mostly opaque dark mahogany with a spotty-lacing light tan head. Aroma of sweet dark caramel and chocolate malts with a hint of raisins. Body starts fairly full and sweet with some sticky milk chocolate flavor and a more bitter and earthy roasty dark malt finish. A pretty good imperial porter.

Huge thanks to Brent (Redlight) for sending this over via Solan. Rich coffee/chocolate aroma with a good whiff of roasted malt. Dark brown with a firm tan head. The fore is coffee, cream, vanilla and chocolate with a roast bitter finish. Better than the double porter. Fairly enjoyable quaffer.

On draft at Redlight. This poured a pitch black color with a thin white head. It smelled of huge coffee grinds, dark malts, and some chocolate as well. The flavor was the same with the big coffee presence coming through with some semi sweet chocolate too. There wasn’t much going on as the coffee dominated throughout. This was pretty thin in the body, and needed more in my opinion. This one just wasn’t my thing. It was ok nothing too special here.

Thanks to SoLan for bringing the growler and Brent for filling it up! Pours black, with a small off white head. Smells of big coffee grounds, mild chocolate, and dark maltiness. The coffee was ever so dominant though. The flavor seemed like they just took the regular double porter and threwsome coffee into it. nothing really complex about it at all, just had a coffee flavor. Needed more body to really pull it off in my opinion. Not horrible, but not great.

Draft at Redlight. Dark mahogany body that lets a little light through. There’s a creamy tan head that leaves behind a microfilm sheet of lacing. The aroma is somewhat muted, though fresh roasted coffee beans, dark chocolate malts, and traces of dark fruits are all detectable. The flavor shows rich roasted coffee, sweet dark chocolate, cream, and perhaps a bit of oak. A medium-full body adds to a milkshake like feel. Smooth as silk. Not particularly complex or groundbreaking, but well made and very drinkable. Would make for a great session porter. Considerably better than the regular LC Double Porter.

Tampa RB Gathering Beer #18....thanks to Brent for the growler of this stuff, and to SoLan for bringing it over with him....dark brown pour with a mocha colored head....aroma is very muted, some coffee and espresso notes, as well as charred malts and dark fruits, but everything is very hard to pull out....flavor is disappointing, just as light as the aroma, somewhat watery even....light bodied for a porter, decent carbonation....finish is gone in a flash, what was there wasn’t much worth talking about....a very disappointing effort

On tap. Very dark brown color with a thin light tan head. Very light coffee aroma coupled with roast. Somewhat light palate. The taste has a thin molasses sweetness that is stronger than any roastiness. A little bit of roast and syrupy coffee in the finish. Neither coffee nor any roast really stands out.
