3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
This IPA had some serious bite to it. Bitterness is almost overwhelming when drinking. Had a heavy hop aroma with a golden color that tasted strong, but not to heavy.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft pint at KClingers. Reddish amber with a firm pillowy head. Oily hop aroma. Full bodied drinker with lots to it -- thick and woodsy, with a heavy spicy twist and a big earthy finish. Tangy and metallic at the end. Good IPA with some gusto. (#3216, 11/24/2007)

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught @ Brouwer’s Café: Deep amber, somewhat fiery, moderate foamy off-white head, spotty lacing.   Sweet malty nose,
kind of candyish, hop presense is there but takes a back seat to the malts.   Big malt flavors up front, somewhat sweet, hop presense
that isn’t over bearing.   Good, up to par with respect to malts, but could stand to be a bit more hoppy.   Mod body and mouthfeel.
Reminds me of an agedand toned down Doggie Claws because of the malts.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught (End of Keg): Aroma of citrus, hops, tropical fruit, and floral hops. Poured a turbid, orange, color with a small white head that diminished. Lots of huge hop particles. Opaque. Excellent lacing. Flavor of floral hops, citrus, and grapefruit. Medium body. Average texture. Average carbonation. Hoppy grapefruit finish.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: JAN 18, 2012 Draft at DRE. Turbid deep dull gold pour with off-white head. Hop, spicy fruit, and bready malt aroma, with the bready malt dominating the taste, and a solid but not overpowering hop presence. Not a hop bomb, but rather a somewhat citric, hopped up blonde ale with some bready and spicy finsihing notes. This one needs to define its criteria, and then master those criteria.
Re-rate: Has this at Capone’s, and the nose was much hoppier, with more resiny and peppery notes, the flavor was intense hops, peppery, fruit, and caramel malt, and the complexity was wonderful. I believe this recipe must have changed since my initial rate in 2007.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On draft at the Abbey bar. This poured a cloudy orange color with a thin white head that dissipated quickly. The aroma was of fresh piney hops with some sweet malts. The flavor was big of malt and candy sweetness with the piney hops pushing their way through. The malts seemed to be in the forefront with the hops bitterness in the background. There was some citrus fruit in there as well. I thought this was more of a regular IPA than a double with the amount of hops. It was still pretty tasty and very drinkable though. This was good, but just lacked the necessary hops to be a double.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Hazy orange in color. Super sweet candy malt smell. Flavor is super sweet caramel malt. Hops are only present in the finish, as a floral dry bitterness comes in on the palate and resonates for a second. Very heavy too, and was harder to finish than most beers. Actually reminded me of a barley wine more so than an IIPA. Somewhat astringent. With how much I like their regular IPA, I would have expected much more from their IIPA. Guess not.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap at Brouwers Hopfest ’07
Pours burnt orange. Another typical west-coast IIPA. too sweet, too sticky, too heavy, too harsh, a bit too hot.
That said, it wasn’t too hard to finish the glass, so it ain’t all bad.
