On draft at the Abbey bar. This poured a cloudy orange color with a thin white head that dissipated quickly. The aroma was of fresh piney hops with some sweet malts. The flavor was big of malt and candy sweetness with the piney hops pushing their way through. The malts seemed to be in the forefront with the hops bitterness in the background. There was some citrus fruit in there as well. I thought this was more of a regular IPA than a double with the amount of hops. It was still pretty tasty and very drinkable though. This was good, but just lacked the necessary hops to be a double.

Hazy orange in color. Super sweet candy malt smell. Flavor is super sweet caramel malt. Hops are only present in the finish, as a floral dry bitterness comes in on the palate and resonates for a second. Very heavy too, and was harder to finish than most beers. Actually reminded me of a barley wine more so than an IIPA. Somewhat astringent. With how much I like their regular IPA, I would have expected much more from their IIPA. Guess not.

Tap at Brouwers Hopfest ’07
Pours burnt orange. Another typical west-coast IIPA. too sweet, too sticky, too heavy, too harsh, a bit too hot.
That said, it wasn’t too hard to finish the glass, so it ain’t all bad.

Modest soft sweet carmel aroma with a slight pine hop note.
Very nice creamy off white head.
Big sweet malty flavor. Sligthty over powering the hps. Nice bittering. Earthy piney IBUs that ust barley keep up.
Lively carbonation but a cra.y full feel.
All round very nice.

Tap. Amber body, small head, sweet nose. Hops come throuugh as bitterness, with minimal character in either hops or malt. Unimpressive example of the style.

Tap @ Mr. Goodbar. Super cloudy (yeasty looking) brown/orange. Lots of brown sugar in the nose - piney & slightly minty hops. Malt is well pronounced & rich - almost a bit of rye. A bit of candied orange. Flavor is rich caramel malt, slight butter, bitter but not extremely so. The hops that are there are piney & floral. no real fruit going on. Butterscotch & bitter finish. Somewhat reminiscent of their old ale.

draft- ehhh. Pretty weak in the flavor department. Not much citrus, or hop flavor of any kind. Just bitterness, some esters, then alcohol.

On tap @ Mister Goodbar Buffalo NY. Very malty & extremely tasty. If this is 8.5 you would never know. Hops sort of dominated by caramel malts. Not as hop dominated as most DIPA’s but tasty

Dark amber color thick fizzy head...caramel notes with a hint of hops. Wet caramel after taste.
