Bottle thanks to drowland. Pours dark brown with tannish offwhite head. Nose is nuts and malt. Taste of pecans, almonds, other nuts with sweet malt balance. Some brown sugar adds to complexity.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: MAY 30, 2005 Poured a deep brown with garnet highlights when held to light. Beer had a 1/4" head that receded quickly to form a nice ring around the edges. Malty/bready aroma with some caramel present. Mouthfeel was light and almost watery. Taste had some roasted sweetness along with hints of chocolate and caramel. Finish was watery and rather unimpressive.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Chestnut with orange tints and a fine cappuccino froth. Aroma of some beauty; dank English woods, biscuit barrel, McVities, caramel sauce on plump juicy raisins,a hint of seaweed. Sweet and silky with some excellent crushed digestive malts, smoke and milk chocolate. Hugely likeable, well conditioned brew.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. It's a dark beer with a good head. Everythign about the beer is dominated by a roastiness (they say a hint? bah). I'd prefer a hoppier brown, less roasty, and one that wasn't a stout using another name. It's not bad, but it's in the wrong style. The marketing guys must have determined that it would sell better if they didn't call it a stout.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours deep amber-ish brown with thin tan head. The aroma is light with some stale malts and roasty malts. The taste is roasty – toasty and malty with a thin layer of malt astringency. I also get toffee and mild molasses. A roasty toastiness really lingers into the finish and beyond. There is a faint stale graininess that rides well below the other flavors.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle 355 ml, Appearance: ruby brown with slight haze , medium bright creamy top. 4- Aroma: mild brown malt aroma, light hint of cocoa. 6+ Flavor/Palate: mid full bodied brew. Good roasted feel welcomes you. This notion is quickly followed but sweet milky chocolate on roasted barley base. Bit ditsy but overall solid darker ale.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle: Burnt orange, hues of brown and ruby, large off-white head, foamy, clingy lacing. Very pale malty and hop aroma. Subtle hop bite, underlying toasted maltiness, albeit very soft itself. Average body and mouthfeel, although it seems to thin out a bit on the exit. Lingering toasted malts, very smooth and clean. I’d hit it again!
