Bottle. Smells mild and sweet, pours light brown or dark amber. Almost no head. Bitter sweet taste with hints of chocolate and a coffee finish. Highly drinkable dessert ale.

On tap. Dark brown with small tan head. Roasty malt aroma continuing in the taste. Roastiness too overpowering for me.

On tap. Pours with a small head, dissipates fairly quickly but maintains nice lacing. Smooth mouthfeel with nice level of carbonation - enough, but not too much. Lightly sweet and malty, but not overpowering. Roasty, but stops short of a porter or stout. A simple brown, but a good one.

On tap at the yard house: Smelled of cheese? Not a bad smell, but definitely a cheesy smell with the malts. Was nice deep brown and had a pleasant nutty flavor, but was very complex.

BOTTLE: dark brown, small tan head that quickly disappeared. Smells sweet. Nice crisp palate, medium body, smooth taste with vanilla hints and brown sugar. Short finish is clean and refreshing.

Not bad at all, chocolate comes out straight away both in the aroma and flavor, a bit too sweet for my tastes but very drinkable

Bottle. Dark brown with a hint of red, light tan head that was pretty thin and faded quickly, not much lacing. Aroma is pretty tame, a little bit of malt with hints of coffee. Flavor is kind of nutty, a touch of coffee, kind of roasty, good balance. Smooth, body isn’t near as substantial as a porter, the next step up the dark beer scale, so I thought there was a bit more to be desired there. Not bad overall.

UPDATED: FEB 15, 2007 On tap. Tastes of roasted brown sugar, light nut flavors. Average mouthfeel, a beer that isn’t very bold in any way.

This is a great brown ale. The bitterness is just right and the finish nice and slightly bitter. Mouthfeel was smooth and slightly floral. A very good brown ale.
