[bottle] one of the best brown ales I have had. this one is delicious. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, very little light comes through, the head was thin and light brown, and dissipated quickly, but complimented the look of teh beer nicely. Flavor is light chocolate and coffee, smells of medium roasted coffee and malts. Mouthfeel is not watery but not really thick either. finish is a little bitter, but complimentary of the aroma and taste.

Nice dark brown color. Great taste. Looks like it's a flat beer, but tastes like it has just enough carbonation and alcohol content.

UPDATED: APR 4, 2003 What a stellar session beer. Don't expect Belgian bliss, but for a really great beer to drink all afternoon while working at just about anything, look no further.
Extraordinarily drinkable American brown.

Cola brown, not much head or lacing. Feels a little thin, refreshing and malty, very mild hop flavor. Finishes well. Beer of the Month club.

Bottle. Pours a very deep brown with a short lasting tan head. Aroma is of toasted malt. Flavor is malty with some nut and molasses. I originally got into brown ales after trying Newcastle and this is definitely more flavorful, more malt but for some reason i still like Newcastle better.

I enjoy this brown ale from Lost Coast. Very smooth for a brown ale. I usually order this for a second or third beer.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Low caramel with a bit of roasty smell. No apparent hops.
Dark amber to brown color with very thin head.
Taste is somewhat watered down but i still get some of the malt and roastiness. Not much bitterness.
Palate is a bit thin for my taste with average carbonation.
To me this is an average brown ale but still pleasant to drink and a change from all the heavy beers i usually prefer.

Dark brown with thick white head that died down quickly. Aroma and taste are malty with a sweet hint of something like chocolate or coffee towards the end.

I buy this at Whole Foods in Redwood City. Itís my favorite everyday beer. The dark brownitude is not overpowering, and thereís a nice subtle chocolateyness, but nothing too bitter.
