COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A smooth, full-bodied nut brown ale, lightly hopped with a hint of roasted and crystal malts. This ale is dark in color without the heavy taste of porter or stout.

Brown, tan dark leather color. Floral nose, slightly malty. Burnt wood, bitter, coffee flavor. Poorly roasted malts. Thin.

22oz. (Bottled on March 2005) Could barely get any aroma out of this brown ale, but there was a small nose of toffee. Had a nice soft head over a light shade of brown color. Minor ingredients in the flavor like toffee, toasty malt, and some sort of nuts. Rather boring.

Bottle. Poured Brown with little white head, notes of toasted caramel. finishes easy. All the right pieces, but it doesnít seem to pull them all together into something special.

I really didnít like the aftertaste--too chemical and dirty. The color is very nice, but the smell was also chemical. I thought I would like this beer a lot and was disappointed, frankly.

At best, I thought this was just an average brown ale with a few faults and little else. The aroma was a bit metallic like, some malt aroma and a slight bitterness like walnuts. Appearance was a nice dark brown with a nice thick head. Mouthfeel was a little harsh which turned me off a bit. Flavor was nutty but there was some toasted bread, and a mineral astringency which was not a tasty suprise at all.

Pours amber / brown with a rich tan head. The aroma has roasted nutty malt, coffee notes and dark butterscotch. Medium / thin body with a light amount of sharp carbonation. The flavor begins with sweet nutty malt, caramel, some cardboard, pepper and a fairly biting aspect. The finish is pretty bland. This was not very enjoyable, but I donít know if it is the brewers fault since I donít know the age of the bottle. This will be rerated if I can get a known fresh bottle.

Bottle. Poured a dark reddish brown with thin tan head, no lacing. Aroma is malty a bit phenolic Basic dry malty flavor rather bland. Medium bottied and a little fizzy in the mouth.

12 oz bottle. Pours a deep, dark brown with no real head. Minimal lacing. Aroma is simple, but a little different than most browns. Nutty, roasty, almost porterlike at times. Kind of weird how the description says "without the heavy taste of porter..." Sweet malts with a toffee background. Not a bad aroma at all. Medium bodied and watery. Not a lot going on with the flavor and pretty unbalanced. Sweet and nutty with a hint of roasty smokiness and finishes slightly bitter. Overall, pretty boring except for the porterlike smell. I guess their description was right in part that it sure doesn’t taste like a porter. Watery and bland.

Appearance- Dark brown color with a tinge of red; creamy light brown foam that persists for a few minutes; intricate, soapy lacing; thin particles Smell- Roasted malt, almost ash-like, nutty and carmel tones Taste- Subtle roasted maltiness; very lightly hopped; short finish with a light bitterness Mouthfeel- Surprisingly light body for a brown ale; watery texture; lively carbonation Drinkability- With its watery texture and underwhelming taste, this is no more than a middle-of-the-road brown ale. Easy to drink, but not very rewarding.

Pours a medium-dark brown, almost amber color with a partially khaki color head, decent retention, some lacing. Slightly fruity and chocolate aroma. Pretty mellow flavor, slight hint of hops and a medium bit of hop sweetness. Very slick texture, medium carbonation and medium-thin body.
