UPDATED: APR 21, 2009 Bottle. Pours and orange/gold relatively clear body with a very small white head. The nose is Dimatap orange overtop malty wheat. Flavor of rotting orange and wheat, some hints of seltzer water. Has a prickly mouthfeel, which could have been good if the rest wasn’t so atrocious. I know other people who thinks this has a good orange flavor, but I couldn’t get past the Dimatap impression. Ugh, you really couldn’t get me to try this again.

Hazy dark amber with a quickly dissipating white head. Aroma of tangerine, light citrus and sweet malt. Taste of mild tangerine, grains and fruit. Comes in at the lower threshold for a drinkable fruit beer.

Appearance: Pours a clear, orange-copper body with a thin, meager head. Smell: A bottle politely mentions a "hint" of tangerine, but, damn it, I say there’s more than a hint! A lovely, tangerine laden nose is what it is, friends. Taste: A solid dose of wheat, but it’s mainly sweet, juicy tangerines. Sweetish at first, but then it gives way to more citrus and a light, vague bitterness. Citrusy all the way through to the end, babies! Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-low carbonation. Drinkability: Just when I was griping about a lack of tangerine-based beers Lost Coast saves the day.

(Draught) Sampled at the Great Canadian Beer Festival 2008 in Victoria, September 2008. Very weird. Very disgusting. Tastes like Five-Alive mixed with orange Crush. Strange. Aweful. 5/2/4/1/8

Foggy deep amber with a thin head. Aroma is orange, wheat, and citrus. Taste is triple sec, light honey, wheat. Pretty odd stuff.

Bottle. I got out my shot glass and poured 1/4 of an oz of this beer into it then poured the rest down the sink. I wanted to get a good feel for the beer, the same way Sean does for his ratings so I figured a quarter of an ounce would be an appropriate sample size. Pours out an orange color without much of a head. The smell is great, very fruity, full of tangerines (obviously). The problem with this beer starts when you drink it. It is sweet, and different, and kind of heavy for a wheat beer. The taste is kind of like an artificially sweetened with orange version of Oberon that isnt as good. My quarter oz went away in a hurry, thank god for my nice Sean-like sample size on this one. Just think, I could have shared this with 87 more people.

nearbeer (3660) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - AUG 17, 2008
UPDATED: DEC 22, 2013 650 ml. Hazy orange-amber with a soda-pop head that fizzles away in about 5 seconds. More bubbles keep trickling upwards, but this one has no retention whatsoever, not even a small ring! Aroma is of tangerine and orange peel. Flavor starts as fresh tangerine, turning to the more acidic-astringent peel and maybe some wheat. No wait; there is no wheat taste in this beer. Aftertaste is lemon juice tinged with tangerine. More than a hint of tangerine: this knocks you over the head with a bushel basket of tangerines. Light body is dry and astringent like chewing on the peel of a tangerine.

Another interesting combination. Didn’t turned out that good this time.

What a dissapointment. I enjoy the smell of tangerine so much that my mouth was watering at the first sniff. Unfortunately this beer tastes like bad sour tangerine on top of unsweet wet cereal. Nothing else to say.
