3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Strykzone (3812) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - APR 10, 2010
Thanks Hayduke who had this bottled at the brewery and then shipped it to me. This wheat ale pours golden and cloudy with some suspended sediment. Head is off white and fades quickly. Pleasant aroma is clove, yeast, and oranges. Flavor is not big but has some good stuff going on. Oranges, honey, banana, alcohol, complex spices, yeast, and more fruit. Aftertaste is dry cloves and then sweet malt and honey and then citrus fruit. Feel is soft and the honey adds smoothness. Such an interesting beer and the honey adds so much. I had to take small sips because different flavors kept coming. Delightful! Hopefully Lost Coast will make this one a staple.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 hayduke (2928) - Eureka, California, USA - JAN 8, 2010
UPDATED: APR 2, 2010 From a draft pint pour and then again from a growler for a second look this poured a cloudy butterscotch yellow with a slightly off-white head and almost no lacing as the foam just slid down the glass back into the brew. The nose is much a mixture of banana, clove, coriander and the honey notes. The body is medium and the mouthfeel smooth. The flavor is dominated by the banana taste, but all the spices show up as well. This is sort of like Great White on steroids, but much more rich and favorable. This is a very easy drinking beer and one that Lost Coast could easily add to its bottled offerings so people outside of the area could enjoy it. Update: When they first released this it was ABV 6.5 % and is now 8.5%. The nose is more intense now and overall a good beer has gotten better.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 redlight (2289) - Winter Park, Florida, USA - JUN 8, 2010
draft @ redlight redlight. Fruity citrus nose with spicy coriander and ginger on the nose with a sweet clove aroma. Pours slightly hazy yellow with a thick white head. Citrusy, spicy, floral flavor, chamomile with hints of ginger and clove, sweet honey and bread-like malts. Not bad.

Pours a hazy orangy yellow color with a minimal white head. The aroma is full of honey, yeast, clove, and banana in that order. The flavor is the same with some soapyness up front and some licorice, anise and Ginger notes toward the finish. Very big and sweet for a wheat beer, and flavorful.
3.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 scotchzi (300) - Florida, USA - JUN 17, 2010
Pretty good witt beer. Like this one it hides its high ABV for a witt beer very well. Kind off a sweet orangey hunish taste. Very tasty and easily drinkable.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 drowland (4981) - Jacksonville, Florida, USA - APR 7, 2012
4/7/12. On tap. Lightly hazy orange pour with a nice big, thick cream head that sticks. Big phenolic aroma with lots of spice and a hint of banana and citrus. Bolder citrus flavor with big yeast character and lots of banana and spice/phenolics. Eh.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 10/20 chickenflea (280) - Oviedo, Florida, USA - JUN 15, 2010
I appreciate attempts to stretch the boundaries of traditional styles, but this one just did not succeed as well as I would have hoped. Pours a hazy light orange color with a medium white head. The aroma is full of honey, yeast, spices, and and a touch of banana. The flavor is dominated by the honey. The best sip was the first. After that the sweetness became sickening. I appreciate that this is an "imperial" wheat. But I ask you, why?

On tap at Proof. Pours nice, as you would expect from a Belgian wheat. And smells and tastes like you would expect from a Belgian style wheat. That being said, nothing that really blew me away, just an American attempt at a Belgian.
