Serving type: bottle Appearance- Clear brown red with a very quick disappearing light tan head. Some very light lacing on the glass. Aroma- A good smell of hops mixed with a sweet and chocolate smell. T/P – Sweet taste with a roasted undertone Overall- A good winter beer. It is a bit heavy so not one to drink a lot of. It defiantly is a winter warmer.

On tap at Rogue Public House, SF. Dark red/brown shade with a nice creamy head plus lacing. Bready, malty, brown sugar aroma. Sweet caramel malty taste and a nice kiss of gingery wintery spice to cap it off. A nice surprise; much more delicious than I expected.

mostly crystal and chocolate malt character, without any notable amber or brown malt. hops were balanced and restrained. decent but lacked depth or repeatability. nice mahogany color with medium body.

I love a brown ale and I have lost count of the amount of my brown ale ratings that start a combination of those first five words. This one seems ruby-amber in colour with a good collar of creamy white head. The aroma is foremost of dusty cocoa, then caramel, chocolate, prunes, dates and raisins. It really is a beautiful aroma. There is some spice there, but it is mellow rather than being handfuls of heat: garam masala, nutmeg, cardamom and cinnamon. There is a good tingle of mouthfeel that lets you know its there before it softens and becomes sweet and chocolate biscuity. There arenít lashings of bitterness but this beer is nontheless satisfying. Itís a dessert treat rather than your standard sessionable brown ale but I love that this beer demonstrates the versatility of the style. Big like.

Iím more a fan of their regular, downtown, brown ale. This beer is more roasty with a sweeter aftertaste.

Appearance: Mahogany and garnets with brown edges under a khaki head that fades into a collar. Swirls average.
Nose: Chocolate cookies and chocolate cake. Freshly baked pumpernickel bread in the back. Burnt molasses along the edges. Date cake. Generic brown spices.
Palate: Medium weight and mouthfeel. Just like the nose, chocolate cookies and chocolate cake abounds with a lightly dry finish. Date and fig cake Ė figs and dates in the middle, cake/cookie along the sides. Hint of plum skins. Moist chewy raisins in the middle. A bit more chocolate before that be all she wrote.
Final Thoughts: I expected less and got more and I expected more and got less. A solid brown ale but it didnít knock my socks off even though I felt like it should have, especially when one considers the overall popular opinion on this winter seasonal. Still, the Winterbraun is a good beer and Iíd happily drink of it again as should you.

Pours dark chestnut, mild head. Aroma is a bit of black pepper and caramel. Flavour is some nut, caramel. Finish has alcohol. Carbonation seems quite high, adds to the creaminess. Pretty underwhelming, nowhere near the best browns, the only thing interesting about this is the combination of sharp carbonation and creamy mouthfeel.

Tasty brown ale. Aroma is malty, but faint. A nice hop tingle on the tongue. Chestnut in color with white 1-finger head.
