4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Good chocolate color with a rich, thick head. The hops were just enough to give the beer a subtle spiciness to it. finished well.

2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
2004 offering. Paid $1.49 for a 12-oz single at Whole Foods in Charlottesville, VA. Deep brown with a small head. Smells dusty... yea, dusty... with a hint of toffee. Flavor is burnt something... nothing special here. Not too malty, which is nice, but... ordinary.

Pours with a dark brown body with red tinting, topped by a thick, off-white head with nice lacing. The aroma and flavor are slightly sweet yet slightly bitter with a nice touch of rasted coffee and a touch of caramel. Medium to full bodied and a touch dry.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draught. Sweet, spicey stoutish aroma. Almost fully opaque. Brownish, reddish with a large tan head. Fine bubble head. A little darker head than Guinness but similar in appearance. Excellent, fine lace! I want to give it more points for appearance. First sip made me shudder. Improved as my palate got used to it. Still, a little sloppy. Old draught lines? Tastes somewhat high in alcohol. But only 6.5%. Good spice. Definitely a holiday brew mouthfeel. A little tough on the pallate. Bourbon cask notes? Was my last of 5 brews on the evening. Didnít really enjoy it. Kind of hurt my stomach.

After reading the description, Iíd say this one tastes like a cross between a porter and a brown ale. Either way, itís pretty good. Nice color and flavor. Iím definitely becoming a big fan of Lost Coast - and they have some very cool labels to add to my collection.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Dark brown body. No light coming through this. Smallish tan head. Nose is light roastiness with light cocoa. Light spice notes as well. Seems a bit thin to me, though. Taste is sweet with light spice, some fruity hints, faint hops, light nuttiness and some hints of cocoa. Light roastiness as well. Body is medium with some creamy notes. Finishes with more spice, ripe fruit, light cocoa and nuts.
