A full-bodied, brown ale with a rich chocolate taste created from roasted chocolate and caramel malts. Topped with Czech Saaz hops to give it a spicy flavor and aroma.

Tap at Kclingerís publik house in Etters, PA. Pours a crisp light mahogany with off-white head. Barely any detectable aroma. Very fruity and caramelly with chocolate notes. Well-balanced, but not very drinkable, in my opinion.

Nice looking dark pour, brown sugar mollasses aroma. Flavors are present but perhaps a bit too subdued, consisting of roasted malt, dark break, mocha, nuts, tinge of coffee, and hops. A lighter, dryer finish than the very dark color would lead to believe. A nice effort.

Good chocolate color with a rich, thick head. The hops were just enough to give the beer a subtle spiciness to it. finished well.

2004 offering. Paid $1.49 for a 12-oz single at Whole Foods in Charlottesville, VA. Deep brown with a small head. Smells dusty... yea, dusty... with a hint of toffee. Flavor is burnt something... nothing special here. Not too malty, which is nice, but... ordinary.

Pours with a dark brown body with red tinting, topped by a thick, off-white head with nice lacing. The aroma and flavor are slightly sweet yet slightly bitter with a nice touch of rasted coffee and a touch of caramel. Medium to full bodied and a touch dry.

Draught. Sweet, spicey stoutish aroma. Almost fully opaque. Brownish, reddish with a large tan head. Fine bubble head. A little darker head than Guinness but similar in appearance. Excellent, fine lace! I want to give it more points for appearance. First sip made me shudder. Improved as my palate got used to it. Still, a little sloppy. Old draught lines? Tastes somewhat high in alcohol. But only 6.5%. Good spice. Definitely a holiday brew mouthfeel. A little tough on the pallate. Bourbon cask notes? Was my last of 5 brews on the evening. Didnít really enjoy it. Kind of hurt my stomach.

Bottle: Deep brown color with a hint of ruby and a small light tan dimishing thead. Aroma is sweet and lightly spicy. Flavor starts nutty with a hint of cocoa then a little hop spiciness and a tangy dry finish. Modestly creamy palate. An interesting brew.

This is like a spiced version of the downtown brown. Poursa deep brown hue with a small white head. Aromas of malts, spice, pepper, and brown sugar, Flavors of spiced/sweetness, cocoa, honey, and nuts. A very nice spice that isnít overdone.

After reading the description, Iíd say this one tastes like a cross between a porter and a brown ale. Either way, itís pretty good. Nice color and flavor. Iím definitely becoming a big fan of Lost Coast - and they have some very cool labels to add to my collection.
