Deep brown with ruby highlights which produces a frothy tan head and very good lace. The aroma has notes of caramel, toffee, walnut, floral hops, grains, earhy yeast esters, and a dose of allspice. The taste starts mocha malty with almost lactic bite, nutty and grainy. Hints of smoke, spice and minor acidic fruits towards end, some bitterness lingers. The mouthfeel is lively and crisp, no alcohol detected. A nicely complex little brew, a highly quaffable brown ale.

Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, fully lasting. Body is dark brown. Aroma is moderately malty (toasted bread, roasted grain, caramel), lightly hoppy (herbs, resin). Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, velvety/creamy texture, lively carbonation. Nice, rich stuff.

Smell is of dark roasted malt. Color is dark, almost black. It appears as a porter. Taste is of dark roasted malt with little hop backbone. Overall good, but not greate beer.

Brown ale my ass. its more of a stout or maybe a scotch ale. Odd nose like burnt molasses or toffee. kind of sweet yet not sweet, if you can explain that. taste was the same. kind of bitter like a licorice root was in it.

A dark mahogony with a tan head. The aroma has nice roasted and carmel notes. The flavor is a bit complex. I noticed chocolate, carmel, and a hint of coffee malts. A very small hop presence was noticable along with a sweetness at the front of the mouth.

Not great but not bad. An average Brown Ale with a swig of citrus sourness on the palate. It's kind of a fun beer (something different), but just not quite my thing.

If there was a category for a scotch winter ale, I would put this in it. Smoky aroma, tons of malt and spicy cinnamon notes in the medium body. Slightly hoppy finish. I would love to have this again; thanks to matta for hooking me up.

Deep brown without much light brown head and it doesn't stay up there too long. Aroma is heavily malty with distinct milk chocolate, brown sugar, vanilla and nutty hints: I could indeed mistake this smell as a porter blind. It's got a nice nutmeg and almond bite in mouth coupled with dark licorice and a low-profile hop character that leaves a boring unfresh bitterness, while aftertaste is bready, mostly dry and short. Cheers to Matta!

A "heavy" brown ale, I thought it was a more like a porter or stout. Balance was good without excessive bitterness. Good Job

Bottle: Good nose, chocolate, rootbeer. Blackish red color, small head. Molasses and powdered chocolate. Burnt creamy finish. Tasty, can't tell what year, though it seemed a porter to me.
