A full-bodied, brown ale with a rich chocolate taste created from roasted chocolate and caramel malts. Topped with Czech Saaz hops to give it a spicy flavor and aroma.

Bottle-10/03. Medium creamy tan head with fine-large sized bubbles. Fast rising carbonation, opaque and a dark brown hue. Malty, caramel, and milk chocolate aroma. Sweet, caramel, malty, and hop flavor. Smooth mouthfeel, medium bodied and fair lacing. A good Brown Ale IMO. Worth a try.

This bottled brew from Oct of 2003 poured a large sized head of fine to medium sized light brown colored mostly lasting bubbles that left behind a fair lacing. The body was a opaque dark brown color with no visible carbonation. If the head were darker, I would swear it to be a stout. It has a very nice brown beer malt aroma. The palate is smooth initially then finishes with a big brown beer flavor splash mixed with a mild hop aftertaste. The flavor is that of brown malts and mild hops a touch roasted and a tad of caramel. A very nice mix overall.

Oct. 03. Deep red body with thin, tan head. Big semi-sweet chocolatey aroma with caramel, light coffee, dark bread, some residual sweetness and some light roasted character. The body is a creamy and not too thick, especially for a brown ale. The flavor shows more sweetness, the heavy chocolate, some caramel, toastedam buttery nuts and lightly toasted bread. The finish is long and satisfying, showing the creamy body and sweet flavors. Long and tasty. I think this would have been a little better if fresh, but otherwise quite tasty.

’03/’04 vintage bottle. Served at 50 degrees. Dark ruby-brown color with a quick to dissapate wafer thin head. Luscious aromas of toasted pumpernickel bread, dark chocolate, toffee and faint spice. Mouthfeel a bit on the thin side on first sip. Sweet initial malty, brown sugar, vinous flavor which quickly transcends into a restrained semi-sweet chocolate and hop bitterness. Finishes crisp and minerally, but fades out a bit too fast. No overt faults, just a bitlightweight for a Winter Ale.

Didn’t mind this at all. Spicy cookie/cakie flavours, some chocolate, raisin, with light bitterness, some tart acidity. Pretty tasty .

22oz bomber bottled oct 2000!! This bottle even has a different label than the one shown on the description. Pours 90% black with a beige head. roasty, chocolate nut aroma-slightly cardboardy due to old age. flavros are sweet, sour, and slightly cardboardy. the hops and huge roasted malts try to cover up this flaw and do a decent job at it. This would have been awesome in 2002. This beer has qualities that remind me of left hand milk stout, Anchor OSA and Stone 6th aniversary porter. VERY bitter finish of roasted notes and slightly smokey. THis was definately a robust porter! I wish this was just a bit younger aged.

22 oz bottle: Large, though quickly diminishing rocky-bubbed tan head above a dark ruby brown body. Dark alcohol laced blueberry-cherry, fig aroma. Pretty weak palate, no assemblance of carbonation and even a bit thin. Flavours come on strong: red-black grapes, blackberries and honey. This one is strange though, everything seems watered down, good flavours, but cut somehow – not full and pronounced. Short of a great beer, but enjoyable no less.

Deep brown with ruby highlights which produces a frothy tan head and very good lace. The aroma has notes of caramel, toffee, walnut, floral hops, grains, earhy yeast esters, and a dose of allspice. The taste starts mocha malty with almost lactic bite, nutty and grainy. Hints of smoke, spice and minor acidic fruits towards end, some bitterness lingers. The mouthfeel is lively and crisp, no alcohol detected. A nicely complex little brew, a highly quaffable brown ale.

Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, fully lasting. Body is dark brown. Aroma is moderately malty (toasted bread, roasted grain, caramel), lightly hoppy (herbs, resin). Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, velvety/creamy texture, lively carbonation. Nice, rich stuff.

Smell is of dark roasted malt. Color is dark, almost black. It appears as a porter. Taste is of dark roasted malt with little hop backbone. Overall good, but not greate beer.
