From the tap, served in a pint glass, made a good appearance, poured a clear bright yellow with a small foamy white that quickly settled into a fine lacing, moderate carbonation. Had a fruity and lightly sweet bready lager malt aroma, simple and clean to the nose. A smooth light bodied mouth feel, good drinkability. Fruity and slightly sweet tasting, a mellow crispiness, with a pale malt lager base, cookie dough-like. A good, simple All-Malt Lager, tasty and very quaffable. On the beer menu it states that the Canvasback Blonde was selection in 2005 at the Iowa Festival Of Beers as a award winner, it has a certificate from the festival hanging behind the bar, but when I went to the IFOB website, I couldn’t find it, so I not sure just what it won, I will have to ask the next time I go to the Lost Duck.

Draught at 2nd Annual Festival of Iowa Beers. Clear golden color with thin white head that left some lace. Smelled of subdued flowery hops. Flavor was of fresh cereal grain and light citrus. Very fizzy and crisp. Pretty good beer.

This was voted the best beer in Iowa at the state beer contest in 2005. Sampled at the brewpub in the summer of 2006. This poured with a very pale yellow body and a thin white head. The aroma was Saaz type hops with some bread crust and apples. A nice smell. The taste had some decent Saaz with some apples and some bread. The finish was clean and crisp. A pretty good lager. Almost like a slightly watered down hoppy pilsner.
