Had at the 4th Annual Festival of Iowa Beers on tap. Big bitter coffee grinds mask real complexity. Nice mouthfeel, though!

From a grolwer that I purchased at the brewpub. The body was black with a light tan had. The aroma was sweet with milk chocolate and wood. The taste was coffee with some prunes. There was also some bread crust and a nice woody finish. Decent.

Draft at the brewpub. Poured a clear, but very dark, brown color with orange highlights. Head was thin, off white, and didn’t leave much lace on the glass. Aroma was of subdued chocolate. Flavor was better with an almost tootsie roll-like character characterized by milk chocolate and light roasty malt. Delicately sweet and medium bodied.

They changed the name to Brewster’s Oatmeal Stout and I was told by the bartender at the Duck that the owner "tweaked" the recipe, so I thought I would review it again.
From the tap, served too cold and over carbonated for my personal taste, in a pint glass.
Poured a purple hued black with a small foamy off-white head that settled into a thin lacing.
Aromas of lightly roasted malts, coffee and sweet lactic, a light fruitiness, and a little hint of toffee.
A tad fizzy, over carbonated, and a softly crisp, medium bodied mouthfeel, the over carbonation hurts the smoothness and diminishes the drinkability.
An ordinary tasting, bland Oatmeal Stout, weak roasted coffee, a sweet lactic flavor that has a artificial sweetener quality to it, a soft raisin and banana fruitiness, a touch of toffee, and a watery malty finish.
