COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hop3Star is a Double Mango IPA. The malt bill includes Pilsner, munich, crytstal, rye, biscuit and flaked barley. Eight hop additions during the boil include: Zythos, Simcoe, Columbus, Hallertau, Cascade, Goldings, Amarillo and Centennial. A total of 118lbs of hops went into the kettle. We brewed two 25 barrel batches, the last runnings from the first batch were used as the base water for the second batch to naturally increase the gravity. We added Belgian candy sugar to the kettle also, to increase the starting gravity. 40lbs of fresh mango were added to the kettle to provide the subtle mango character. After primary fermentation it was dry hopped twice, with Amarillo, Simcoe, Centennial, Columbus and cascade. 33lbs of hops were used in the dry hopping. The starting gravity was 22 degrees plato, final gravity is 3.8 degrees plato. It is 10.1% abv, 150 IBUs and 300 calories/12 oz. Itís one of the craziest beers Iíve ever had the privilege to make. Brewed with Devin Hicksí Westover Beer Garden crew.

Really like me some Lost Rhino but this just didnt eclipse the mediocrity. The rhino chaser os more prevalent and better IMHO.

22oz bottle pours a hazy orange with some hazy white head. Nose has a ton of juicy mango, some citrus, pine, soap. Flavor has some instantaneous bracing bitterness followed by a strong tropical fruit sweetness, pine, grapefruit. Big, zesty, sticky finish.

A: burst of piney resinous, tropical fruitsA: orange strawT: slight alcohol taste, smooth mouthfeel from the mango, super fruity, and very nice.O: very nice beer only kicker....not enough mango, over powered by the hops and alcohol bite.

Serving: Draft at the brewery. It pours a hazy copper color with a lasting creamy, tan head. The nose has lots of resinous pine and a touch of mango. The flavor is a wallop of hops. Lots of pine resin, slight tropical mango undertones, and a little pineapple. Unfortunately the bitterness turns a little aspirin like in the finish. Nice herbals emerge as the brew warms. The ABV is well hidden. Medium to full body with lower carbonation. Solid, but I was hoping the tropical notes would be a little better represented based on the description. Itís tough for a IIPA to stand out these days and unfortunately this one would get lost in the crowd.

Consumed on premise - 5oz taster. This one poured a clear amber color with a medium sized off-white head. Aroma was resin, sweet tropical fruit notes (grapefruit and mango). This one was pretty freaking tasty - mango notes through and through - grapefruits. Alcohol was relatively masked while consuming but soon after cheeks and forehead started to warm a bit - itís there but I donít feel like I have to avoid open flames while consuming. Bottle this, please.

On tap 4 oz. pour at Whole Foods in Vienna, VA. Clear, orange-amber with white head and excellent lacing. Robust aroma of orange, pine, citrus and caramel. Taste of citrus, floral hops and pine. Malt and alcohol are there, but stay well hidden. Medium body and medium carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap at Vienna Whole Foods. Low haze golden pour. Webby white lacing. Nose is dusty, sweaty, vinegar, medicine. As it warms more butterscotch and melon. Taste is all paper with chemical bitterness. Harsh, dry, astringent. Terrible long aftertaste. Give it some time to open up. Wow what a differnece. Mango pulp evident but soft, fairly juicy, fairly oily. Yum. Takes some time to fall into rhythm. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Growler. Large off-white head, clear amber body. Aroma is moderately sweet, grapefruit, mango, some resin. Taste is very juicy -- moderately sweet, grapefruit, some mango, pine. Resiny medium-full body. Alcohol noticeable but not unpleasant.
