Megafauna is an India Pale Lager. It gets its hoppy character from Centennial, Columbus and Cascade hops. To appease the Lager Gods, we used Saaz and Hallertau for aroma. At 7.5% ABV and 80 IBU’s it is balanced, but robust - like a Rhino on the veldt - it’s graceful, but will not stand down. Megafauna pays tribute to the large animals that still roam the planet. They are rare and precious, so Lost Rhino made a rare and precious beer in their honor and in the hope that they will be preserved.

4 oz pour on cask at ChurchKey. Clear golden orange with off-white head. Aromas of citrus, aged floral. Tastes of citrus, light floral notes, spices. Medium-light body with a dry finish. Cask might be past prime, believe this has probably been on for a couple weeks.

Tap. Pours hazy pale golden, small white head, solid lacing. Aroma is light, really light, hints of melon and perhaps cucumber, pine. Flavor is medium sweet, medium bitter, really low on defined taste. Shockingly little going on. This must be old, but it’s being served at the source. Fullish kinda sticky body.

Lots of citrus in here initially but hops taper off near the end. Something of a lager crispness, though still has good hoppy bitterness. Evident barley malt. Golden pour with good head and lacing. Lots of peel in here, and some astringency. Tap at brewpub.

UPDATED: DEC 29, 2014 On draft at the brewery. Pours a hazy gold with an off white head. Fruity nose. Flavors of citrus and pine resin. Bitter finish. From a 22 oz bottle. Tasted pretty darn good -- better than my original rating.

Blah way too thick and sweet. Weird category as well. It feels like they just threw a bunch of hops and malts together randomly and hoped it worked. It didn’t.

21 nov 2013, tap. Dirty yellow/gold. Nose is floral hops and a bit of apple peel and/or yeasty funkiness. Med body and mildly fizzy. Grassy, floral hops, tea leaves, sawdust. A tad bitter. Interesting. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draught @ Churchkey, Wash., D.C. Pours slightly hazy amber with airy off-white head. Clear aroma of hops, malt and fruit with citric touches. Sweetish, fruity and malty flavout with notes of hops and grass. Mild, hoppy finish. The best example of this damned beer stule I have ever had. Rather watery. Tastes more like an IPA than a SPL. That’s why.

Cask at Churchkey. Nice big floral and grapefruit aroma. Medium mouthfeel with a more subtle flavor than the aroma lets on. Very drinkable, no bitterness and pleasant floral notes.
