18/V/13 - 25cl bottle @ VBPF (Jette) - BB: n/a (2013-485) Thanks to Erwin for sharing today’s beers!
Clear dark purple brown beer, aery beige head, unstable, dissipates immediately, non adhesive. Aroma: caramel, dried fruits, overripe fruits, mocha, brown sugar, overripe banana. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: mocha, burnt caramel, bitter hops, bit metallic, cocoa powder, some overripe banana. Aftertaste: little bitter, overripe fruits and banana, bitter hops, port notes, red wine, some tannins, bitter chocolate. It’s pretty complex and interesting, but I’m not a big fan of port beers I guess (Broeder Jacob, Domus, ...)
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Ibrew2or3 (5777) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - MAR 3, 2013
75cl bottle courtesy of and shared with sebletitje. It pours with mahogany colored body and supporting a full mocha colored head of foam. The modest aroma offers up a mix of brown sugar and dark roasted malts to chocolate malts. The taste begins with dark roasted malts and some chocolate mixing with brown sugar and small spikes of vague hop bitterness. Into the finish it picks up a mild sweet prune and muted spicy oak sensation as well as faint toasted toffee notes deep into the after taste. The toasted toffee I’m getting really helps pull this beer together.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 sebletitje (5420) - Enghien, BELGIUM - FEB 25, 2013
75cl bottle shared with Ibrew2or3. Bottle #124/1000.
Note de cerise et raisin.
Compte tenu des essais parfois infructueux d’autres brasserie (HTD pour ne pas la citer) à des bières en barrique, cette dernière reste agréable. Garde cependant une signature très belge que le côté Porto parvient à rendre intéressant.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 BoBoChamp (4195) - Gent, BELGIUM - FEB 16, 2013
75cl, Vintage 2012, Bottle 7/1000, new exclusive brew (brewed at Br. Anders), with port wine, from Willems Grobbendonk, complex brew, sweet/spicy and slightly fruity/roasted, not too heavy, balanced, hazy, rocky head, good brew, yet expensive!
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 JorisPPattyn (7312) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - FEB 6, 2013
Good medium, rather dense dark beige head, over well-carbonated deep dark brown beer; Bit bready nose, leafy and earthy. Melanoidiens and some alcohol-drenched wood, but I don’t seem to get the portaromas. (Love) gone already? Bitterish - roasted flavour, with a malty backing that makes it taste as the baked edges/crusts of a gingerbread loaf. Some alcohol there, hints at some drink, but blind I’d never guessed portwine. Warming up, leafy flavours, tad of (non-sweet) milk chocolate. Feels very carbonated, spritzy. Alcoholwarming. Slick, but not much more than medium bodied - probably well-attenuated. Interesting tryout (and to be honest, much better than I feared). Might be a point of discussion whether this is beer or rather a beercocktail, but given blind, I’d named it beer outright.
