Inviting dark orange with nuge poofy head. Had this both on cask and tap. Slight hop character. Reminded me of the best English ales. Very good.

Orange pour with creamy white head and lace. Aroma is sweet caramel and resiny hops. Flavor mirrors aroma plus nice bitter finish. Medium bodied with smooth carbonation. rbwgtour

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cask draught glass at the joint- served a fine turbid dull orange color, one and half finger white head that laced awesomely. Aroma of very light malt and pine. Hits the mouth with a firm medium body, malt is very noticeable, some hops transversed with very light pine in the middle, finish is a little dry but lasting. There ya go!

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: JUL 12, 2004 Thie brew is usualy what I get if I go to Lovejoys. I love this place. BRew is always on cask. Pours a lovely copper color with a nice casky looking head. Spongy and dense. Nose: Notes of alcohol mainly. Not all that hoppy althogh they are definitely in there. Smells watery (like all of their brews) Really not all that special in the nose. In the mouth...its alright. Nice and smooth not too watery though certaionly could use some more body. Notes of ruffles potato chips, yeast, and a slight hoppiness that dies off into metallic shavings. Its ok not their porter but good

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Think some quality control issue might be here, albeit a minor one compared to infection and the like. Meaning I have had more hopped and less hopped versions. This one was on the rather plain side. That said it comes off with a nice floral aroma and slightly fruity flavor and I certainly see it as a simple session ale with a decent working quality. Pert dun good if not great.

They have a cask conditioned version of this as well as the regular draft. Some head and lacing. Color was typical as was the flavor. Hoppy and rather smooth.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Cask at Lovejoys Austin. Clear gold, fluffy thin head, and great lacing. Nose is lemon hay malts, mild hops. Mild malts in the taste, mild hops in the finish with slight bitterness. Not very distinctive in any direction, but easy drinking beer if you’re not too picky. Good session.

Nifty hand-pull tap. So so beer. Kinda reminds me of some of the house cask ales I had in England.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Had on tap at Lovejoy’s in Austin, Tx. The tap handle said, "Son of Samson’s American Pale Ale", but I’m sure it was the same thing. Murky orange appearance with a thin light white head. Neutral aroma (probably due to smoke in the bar), so I’ll give a five for not being skunky! Odd, artificial flavor, reminds me of Nestea Powdered Iced Tea - the kind your Mom used to make before real Iced Tea became the thing. Slight citrus notes, but is "off" somehow. Mouthfeel is very thin and powdery as if made from concentrate. Let’s hope their other "house" beers are of higher quality, becuase I will be back - I’m a sucker!
