Fermented and maturated in oak vats. No adding yeast. Spontaneous fermentation because of adding freshly pressed Barbera grapes juice that contains the skins, directly from a viticulturist near Alba. Brewed once a year at vintage time obviously. Available in 375 ml or 750 ml bottles.

2011 bottle. Pours red with some tepid carbonation. Smells of oak, some residual sugar, lightly acetic sour. Tastes tarte with some grape skin hints on the finish. Okay. Not worth the money.

Small 2012 bottle. Reddish brown with a head that fizzes away to nothing straight away. Aroma of cherries, grapes, wood, almonds. Fairly light-bodied, low carbonation - a little kefir-like in texture. Tart and woody, lots of grapes. Quite sour, hints of vinegar. Interesting and good.

My Bottom Line:
Black grapes turn to cranberries, as flowers dissolve into pepper in this complex but somewhat aqueous Sour Ale.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-There is no head atop the cloudy pale red.
-The flavor profile is quite delicate, which was surprising (increasing drinkability).
-The big, prickly bubbles and wooden dryness combine for an elegant mouthfeel.
-There were some strange lacto whiffs at the beginning (almost butyric), but they were quickly forgotten.

Pours a one finger white head that vanishes immediately and leaves no lace. Brown/red murky color. Fizzy carbonation and medium bodied. Sour grape nose and flavor is sour grape with hints of sweetness, almost a wine. Can we call this a beer if there is no yeast in it?? There are numerous sour ales that are far cheaper, not worth trying at $19.99 for a 375ml bottle from Julio’s Liquors Marlboro, MA. Brewed 2010.

Heavy-based 37.5cl bottle (2012 vintage). Pours murky reddish-brown with champagne-white head that dissipates quickly to nothing. Aroma is vinous with red grapes, vinegar, oak and perhaps a hint of cherries. Palate is flat and vinous with sour flavours and and a tart dry finish. Quite light bodied for the ABV.

750mL bottle, pours a dark amber / mahogany with a tiny ring of off-white head. Nose brings out lots of grapes, oak barrels, and wild notes. Flavour brings out loads of dry red wine barrels, lots of dry red grape skins, and a touch of wood. Very dry and vinous, with a flat carbonation. Extremely complex, but could use a higher carbonation. Quite complex, leaving a dry, vinous finish. Great stuff.

375ml bottle (vintage 2011). Cloudy dark copper colour with very small, big bubbly, instantaneously collapsing and fading, ochre head. Malty and fruity aroma, notes of grapes, a touch of nutmeg, hints of oak. Taste is minimally to moderately tart, dry, fruity, notes of grapes, fruit parings, a touch of nutmeg, oak, vinous overall; flat carbonation.

Red coloured and almost clear. Has a pink head, diminishing. Acidic, sulfur aroma, some faint fruity notes too. Acidic flavor, more faint fruity notes, light astringent.

Bottiglia 37,5cl, comprata da Eataly e bevuta al lavoro. Rosso torbido senza schiuma. Zero carbonazione, acida, vinosa, complessa eppure bevibile. Grande birra
