I.I.C.S.S. Italian Imperial Coffee Spiced Stout Top Fermented Beer. It is the same basis that gave birth to Papëssa too. It goes to barrel (barrique) and stay there for 12 months. During this period I add coffee and spices. The name Marché ’l Re is a card game name very played here in Piedmont in the past. People were used to play it in coffee shops, drinking coffee with fernet (Fernet is a type of amaro, a bitter, aromatic spirit. Fernet is made from a number of herbs and spices). Inspiring to that, I use a blend of Caffè Vergnano (a very famous brand of coffee from Chieri) and spices as rhubarb, saffron, gentian and cinchona. "Ebony beer, strong in character, very complex. In the nose it is rich of an intriguing mix of flavors as chinchona, soy sauce, coffee and chocolate stuffed with candy orange. Spicy notes of gentian root and saffron are standing in the palate, well balanced by coffee and dried mushrooms notes. Draught at CBC 2014. Opaque black liquid with a small tan head. Aroma of coffee, spices, licorice, lemon and saffron. Taste is light sweet and light sour with notes of coffee, spices and licorice. Light to medium bodied with low carbonation. Pretty weird.

Tap at CBC 2014. Beer in the glass deep black, small head. Heavy malty aroma with notes of liquorice. Starts heavy malty, intense notes of liquorice, a lot of coffee and bitter chocolate. Dry malty finish. Heavy beer!

Keg at the Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2014, red session. 03/05/2014. Dark caramel brown coloured viscoud oily pour. Aroma is earthy coffee beans, roasted barley and nice berry fruits. Flavour is tart berry, earthy roast. Palate is full bodies with a tart edge. Lingering black cherry.

On tap at CBC 2014. Cloudy dark brown with off white head. Aroma is spiced, coffee, citrus, some acidity and herbs. Tastes like Fernet, raw, herby, bitter with same notes as in aroma.

Draught @ CBC2014. Pours murky very dark brown with a minimal beige head. Aroma is coffee, sour berries, hard toasted malts, herbs, grapefruit, phenols, cheese and soy. Taste is moderate sweet, bitter and moderate+ acidic. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft+. Finishes sweet and sour with coffee. Quite rough and unbalanced.

Tap @ CBC14-red. Black. Spicy herbal nose. Bit like bell peppers.. chilies, or tabasco really. Full body. Herbal, fernet blanca- like. Strange one. Even if not something I would crave later on, was pleased to have tried. Excentric.

[5/3/14] Draught sample at Copenhagen Beer Celebration. 3rd session. Opaque black. Sour aroma with fruits and sauerkraut. Roasty flavor, sourish and fruity, with coffee and a spicy note. Full-bodied. Really nice.
