Shared bottle courtesy of my beer pal Ivar. Pours black with a foamy brown film. Roasted notes, coffee, mild liquorice, dark dried fruits and chocolate on the nose. Grows in the mouth, over-carbonated. Roasted notes. sweet, fruity, chocolate flavored. Full body. Long dark chocolate finish. Dry tongue. Once the fizz is shaken out this is quite drinkable.

On tap at Selezione Birra 2012, Rimini. Pours a very dark brown color with a nice brown head. Aroma is roasted with hints of wood and licorice. Taste is dark and roasted with cocoa, licorica and coffee. Soft carbonation. Maybe this one is a bit underattenuated in the aroma but everything else is top notch.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 tfredvik (648) - Oslo, NORWAY - FEB 7, 2012
This beer looks stunning already when I pour it into the glass: the black liquid looks extremely viscous, it looks like thick oil! The large, creamy, brown head is long-lived and reduces to a decent layer after a long time, but fails to lace the glass noticeably. The aroma is heavy malty but not that sweet, there are burnt notes, strong coffee and wood. Also dark berries, I think I get some faint black currant, and deep down there is some chalk. Medium sweet taste, light acidic and a lovely, long-lasting, biting heavy bitter aftertaste. Is it also a bit salty? As the beer warms up it doesn’t really open up as much as a perfect imperial stout does, it stays more or less the same flavour wise. I get very little of the sweet dark fruits and berries that e.g. Nøgne Ø’s IS reveals when the temperature increases. It lacks a bit in complexity, but it’s still a very nice beer that I certainly would have bought again if it wasn’t for the ridiculous price (even by Norwegian standards).
[33 cl bottle, brewed in 2010, enjoyed 2 years before BB date, from Vinmonopolet Vika, Oslo]

330 ml bottle. Dark brown, almost black body with dense brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, coffee and molasses. Flavor is sweet, medium roasted malt, mocha, coffee, chocolate and bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet and bitter. Nice balanced, good flavor, a bit lighter than expected for Imperial Stout, almost a bit Belgium Stout in style. Really nice anyway.
