75cl bottle for my 40th Birthday thanks to Fin and Loz. Thanks to a great couple. Very dark brown colour with lasting beige head. Attractive choc aroma with some subtle whisky in there too. Smooth in the mouth. Whisky builds through the swallow and into the finish. I quite like the choc part of it. The barrel ageing is ok and not over the top but I’m not convinced it either improves the base beer nor that it integrates perfectly with the beer either. As a limited edition beer I am very grateful to Fin and Loz for being able to try it.

Bottle, 75cl. A reddish dark brown beer with a finger-thick dense, light beige head. Roasted, lightly boozy nose with dark chocolate and some coffee. Some vanilla hints. Super soft and full-bodied, a bit warming, but not in an unpleasant way. Roasted malts, chocolate, some vanilla and booze, and a little bit of bitterness in the flavor. Lasting finish. A pleasant one, that’s for sure. 120623
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 madmitch76 (9845) - , Essex, ENGLAND - DEC 12, 2010
15th November 2010 On tap at the Rake. Very dark brown beer with a tiny light tan head. Light soft palate - a little dry. Some mild carbonated sprityzness. Creamy dark malt, hint of paint. Some pleasant subtle fruit. Trace of chocolate. Finishes smooth and dry. Loads of well blanded flavours - subtle and well joined up. That said it lacks a ’wow’ factor.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 MesandSim (7118) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - NOV 15, 2010
A Sim rate (on tap @ the Rake): Sweet, malty bitterness in the aroma with chocolate, toffee and an obvious bourbon hit. Flavour is chocolate, coffee, and a chocolate biscuity hit of goodness. The bourbon’s there, but it doesn’t bowl you over like that last shot of bourbon on a hot Southern night. It’s subtle, with coffee & chocolate to ease it in. Palate smacks of peanut butter with some guts to back it up. Finish lets you off easy....remniscent of the beer but not overwhelming. Nice stuff!
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Leighton (6910) - London, ENGLAND - DEC 9, 2010
On tap at the Rake. Pours dark, amber-brown with almost no head. Ripe fruit on the nose, with hints of alcohol, caramel and cocoa. Rich flavor, not overly sweet or boozy, with some toffee, hearty bread, some butter (maybe peanut butter, to borrow the idea). Medium in body with fine carbonation and faint warming. Mostly malty finish with faint, earth and citrus bitterness. Maybe a bit of maple syrup, too. Very good overall, but not outstanding.
