3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Stark Dark Wheat
Appearance: Deep reddish brown, foamy light tan head, but it doesn’t last, cloudy.
Aroma: Bubblegum, some spice like clove, fig.
Flavour: Licorice or dark fruits, slight bitterness, pumpernickel.
Mouthfeel: Lively carbonation front and centre, well balanced, some yeasty herbally dryness in the finish.
Overall: Decent dunkelweizen, exceptional by Asian standards!

1.1 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 3/20
Nose: yeasty, vegemite, iron / blood, lemon tart.
Pour: frothy, dissipating after 3 min to random small bubbles and a very thin head.
Taste: sour, vegemite, espresso that's been left out way too long, gastric juices. Somewhere there's an underlying hint that this is supposed to be a dark beer but you know that something went disastrously wrong in the process.
Overall, this is quite terrible. One dimensional, unpleasant and a chore to attempt to finish (I didn't). Marginally better than the brewery's regular Wheat beer, but that really isn't saying much. Back to the drawing board.

I was hoping for great things when I found this in Bali, to add a little variation to the beer drinking rather than Bintang Bintang Bintang. Unfortunately, after a decent looking pour, nice colour, good head the taste was truly horrid, incredibly sour which I can only assume was due to poor handling.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Poured dark amber almost black . Initially large frothy tan head. Light peppery yeasty aroma. Mouthfeel is crisp with carbonation. Malt flavour, clove and banana notes. defiantly better then excpected for indonesian beer standards.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
330 ml bottle. ±5%. BB 07/2015. From Indonesia. A big thank you to Hellu!
Murky brown colour with a tiny off-white head.
Mild spices, mild sourness and mild malt in a mild aroma.
The flavour is wheaty malt, raisins, dark fruits, sweetness and mild sour notes.
Not in perfect condition I believe.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle 33cl. @Stark’s House Jalan Legian Kuta Bali. Color cloudy deep redbrown, big frothy beige head, dissipates quickly, light lacing; fruity nose, banana, bubble-gum, bit nutty, cloves; taste light sour and sweet, bit of citrus; medium body, oily texture, average carbonation, aftertaste sweet and sour, fruity and spicy notes; somewhat heavier and more complex than the wheat version but slightly less convincing, though altogether another nice surprise from this part of the world...

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
From the bottle, purchased in Discovery, and to break up the amount of lager I’d consumed in Bali. It’s faultless to look at once poured. Excited, it produces a good 2 inches of hefty, rocky foam atop a cloudy, fiery chestnut body flowing with fine carbonation. Aroma is slightly fruity, sherryish and leads headstrong towards rum and raisin icecream. Light in body with a dominant roasted and cocoaish malt mid-palate and tannic, malty backend. Dry and dusty, subtly phenolic finish; a hint of pepper, burnt toast, rum balls, twiggy bark. Odd, yet it comes together neatly. Credit where credit is due, it is not too bad a drop!! Horrible beer. Possibly infected, or possibly mistreated. In any case, give it a miss in Bali, even if you are desperate for something other than lager. Big waste of money.
