Nice, brown color but very weak foam resulting in no head. Aromas of burnt bread, caramel and molasses with a slight hint of dark chocolate. Moderately bitter taste with noticeable (slightly too strong) alcohol. Lightly carbonated, light body. Short, slightly bitter finish.

On tap at a beer hall. Bready caramel aroma. Medium brown and transparent. Sweet caramel and toffee taste, hints of coffee. Medium body although I found it to be on the lighter side which is not meant as a detractor.

Bottle picked up while in Munich. The beer poured a clear copper color with a small off white head that didn't retain very long. The aroma is brown bread, medium roasted malts, and some caramel. The taste is similar to the aroma with some raisin notes in there. The mouthfeel is on the medium side.

300ml vom fass at Malhäser in Stuttgart. Clear and deep mahogany in colour with a dense beige head. Heavy malt aroma. Sweet malty flavour of caramel. A watery mouthfeel and a bit too much carbonated (22.04.2006).

This beer pours a gorgeous dark amber to brown, but crystal clear with an off-white head that lingers a while. Not a strong aroma, but what is there is dominated by sweet, grainy malts. The body is medium with enough carbonation to keep it from being too heavy. Crisp and refreshing. The flavor is dominated by malty sweetness with a nice light hop finish, just enough to balance the malts.

On tap at Lownbrau in Berlin 09.01.13. It was OK .. standard dunkel color, aroma of similar cocoa and sweet caramel notes. Taste was cocoa at the start though a little rougher and bitter than other german dunkels on the market ... overall, OK but much better options in the category available
