Nice clear body but way light on malt, aroma and overall desirability.

UPDATED: DEC 6, 2003 Ugh, definitely not as good as I made it out to be when I first started drinking beer. It's fairly plain, nothing interesting to find in this beer. Not to say that it's bad though.

UPDATED: JUL 5, 2003 Surprise, this is a good beer. The beer that is available in the US, now comes from Munich. The beer comes in a green bottle, but I kept it from light. Very bright golden color. Pasteurization is noticable, but not a huge detractor. The nose is very malty. The palate is sweet and malty. The beer finishes malty with a late lingering hop bitterness.

Pours a bright yellow head, fairly average tasting lager (but is it?). You can taste the hops more than most.

A rich and fruity tasting beer.

When this beer was contract brewed by Miller and thirteen bucks a case bottles I drank it as a session beer in the summer. Lowenbrau is now $22 bucks a case here in the states and imported from Canada for the past three years. There are too many better beers available in the Philadelphia for $20 - $25 a case so I don’t buy Lowenbrau anymore. I wish Miller could contract brew it on the cheap again.

In the middle tier of the Helleses produced by Munich’s Big 6. Drier than Spaten (same company, different brewery). The two tails on the lion (look closely at the logo) are for the two types of hops. And they use them very nicely.
