Pours an almost black color with red hints to it, while holding the beer against the light, together with a big, fluffy white head. Smells of earth infused, spicy licorice, soothed by toffee and raisins. Has a lower carbonation, resulting in a very soft mouthfeel, which turns out to be a tad fuller than your usual Bock. Tastes of toffee, wood bark, dried earth and rock sugar from the beginning, with spices joining in. The beer’s spiciness creates a peppery bite, mellowed by the overall smoothness, opening up the palate to raisins and glazed caramel. After the swallow the established sweetness finds its counterpart in an earth supported dryness, almost reminding of cold pressed coffee beans, due to the use of a prominent, utmost spicy earth quality and warming alcohol, creating an awesome balance till the end. This convinces for creating a fantastic and ever evolving depth of flavors, highlighting typical Doppelbock qualities, together with a unique, spicy twist.

Eye: pours a nice clear brown, coke like color with a medium thick and not too quickly dissipating beige head and medium to strong carbonation. Nose: malts, dark dried fruits such as prunes, prune juice Mouth: prune juice again, Rimuss, pleasant carbonation and tickling on the tongue Palate: roasted nuts, chocolate and coffee malts Overall: not too sweet and not too much alcohol, nice mix between sweetness and bitterness, almost porter like! otherwise not as complex as I thought it would be though.

Bottle. Dark brown in colour, nice white head, good lacing. In aroma toasted malts, melanoidins, dried fruits (drunk in the end of best before). In taste sweet with dark bread and dried fruits, medium body, low to medium bitterness in the finish. No alcohol, smokth, quite sweet. In overall nice doppelbock.

On tap at Munich brewpub. A clear orange-tinted brown with a resilient beige head. Aroma is overripe dark fruit, roast and hazelnut. Flavor is overripe fruit, roast, coffee and hazelnut. Finish is loads of coffee, lots of herbs, and, unfortunately, lots and lots of booze. Too much booze. Would be a GREAT beer without that excessive touch... Medium to full body, weak to average carbonation.
