3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Nice dark beige head and brown clear colour, with reddish shine. Smells smoky and malts, but less than other doppelbocks. Taste is roasted, caramel, quite sweet, with very little hops, not really bitter, with a clear chocolate background taste. I didn’t feel the alcohol, and low carbonation. Too light-bodied, with the taste in the mouth disappearing fast.
Not bad, but sure there are better doppelbocks.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
500 ml bottle, poured into a snifter. ABV 7.6%
Very deep mahogany brown colour, with a tall, thick and creamy head, off-white in colour, with good retention and light lacing left behind.
Aroma of stewed fruits, sugars, light roasted malts, quite some caramel.
Very tasteful, sweet/sour, with lots of stewed fruits again, roasted malts and a bit of chocolate on the background, albeit quite faint and covered by the caramel notes. Nice bitterness on the aftertaste.
Medium thick on the body, average carbonation.
Very nice and full of taste bock.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
A dark, reddish brown coloured beer with a frothy yellow-white head. A rich fruity aromas of plums, cherries and grapes alongside oak wood, nuts and roasted malt. Full-bodied mouthfeel. A dry, tannin-like taste to start, woody and slightly resinous, nutty and malty. Then the fruit burst through to round off the flavour superbly, bucket loads of dark fruits, plums, cherries as well as raisins. All of which stay present in the long and full finish. Bottle purchased from Rewe, Neufahrn bei Freising, Germany.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Excellent bock, elegant, smooth but powerful, perfectly balanced in its notes of red fruits, biscuit and nuts. Perefectly integrated alcohol and good development, longlasting and steady. Very easy to drink and enjoy.

50cl Bottle: best before the end of Dec 2012, poured @ home into a ’Back Forty Beer Co’ badged US pint glass on 23 Nov 2012, it didn’t all fit in one pour!
Looks good: mahogany with a red hue, on top a blanket of biege foam.
Sweet malty molasses hit the nose straight away: treacle, toffee and caramel in no particular order fill your senses with pleasure. This is going to be one sweet malty brew and you’ll know that before the beer gets anywhere near your mouth.
The rich almost creamy body is all about those malts: luckily they aren’t so sickly as the aroma suggested, fruitier and nuttier than full in your face sweetness. Still plenty of those molasses around but they are subdued by the hops and alcohol contents enough to stop them completely taking over and as the beer warms a little the beers true flavours begin to appear. Dark berries, raisins, chocolate, ground coffee beans and Dundee Cake.
Complex, interesting and alcoholic: three of my favourite beer characteristics.
