Bottle from Trafalgar Wines, Brighton. Looks great - as you would expect from a Munchner special; reddish brown, like a beaver (the four legged kind) submerged in cherry cola. Rich, delicious aroma of Lyle’s golden syrup cake and chicken satay mixed with honey and sultanas. Seriously. Taste is initially strongly honey, syrup and ginger but settles down, avoiding being too sweet as the bittersweet malt aftertaste comes through. There’s definitely some lemon juice and Benylin in there too. The one downside was that it felt a bit thin and watery but with a taste like this I didn’t mind too much. A triumph indeed - and my first 4+ score in 50 beers. It’s been a long time...

Picked this beer up on my Munich tour. The beer pours a dark brown with some ruby shining through when held up to a light with a medium sized off white head that left plenty of lacing. The aroma is brown bread, caramel, and some hops. The taste is very similar to the aroma and the mouthfeel is medium and silky.

UPDATED: MAY 8, 2015 0,5 l bottle from EDEKA Mohr, best before 31/1/2016. Clear, dark amber with a thin, foamy, slowly diminishing, tan head. Pleasant aroma of cane sugar, molasses, raisins and prunes. Very sweet taste of molasses, cane sugar, raisins and prunes with hints of coffee. Short, just slightly bitter and gently alcoholic finish. Full body, oily, chewy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice sipper, very sweet but not aggressively.

500 ml bottle, one year old.
Dark copper/brown body, with a medium, creamy, lacing, beige head.
Aroma of dried fruits, caramel, bread, smoke.
Taste is quite sweet, but interesing, with caramel, dried fruits, berries, tea, some bread, some hops.
Medium, oily mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes sweet malty, a bit sticky, but also a bit roasty and hoppy.

Nice one. A bit too sweet for my liking, but still with a multifarious taste, that has some notes you wouldn’t expect. Overall nothing outstanding, but a very good, recognisable Doppelbock.

From the bottle. Not very much aroma, malty and sweet, but not much aftertaste. Could be better!

Bottle at Taphous Munich. Low crealy lasting light brown head. Clear brown body. Sweet roasted malt caramel chestnuts aroma and flavor. Mildly hopped. Low carbonation, long sweet finish.

Was Malz mit Jodium und Lakritze. Schöne dunklen Farbe

Bottle from The Beerhive. Clear chestnut body with a medium beige head. Lively carbonation. Light lacing. Aroma of Marmite, rust, stewed tea and treacle. Flavour caramel, salted nuts and a peppery, alcohol burn. Medium body with an oily texture. A bit too heavy and peppery for my liking and the alcohol is far from hidden.
