(bottle) Clear, deep amber to brown colour with a big and light-beige foamy head. Sweet and toasty caramely malty aroma with notes of Bavarian Blockmalz bonbons, traces of vanilla and discreetly herbal accents in the background. Sweet flavour with a tinge of hoppy and toasty bitterness, medium to full bodied with a moderate carbonation. Taste is like fluid Blockmalz with loads of caramel and a molassy touch, accompanied by shades of herbal hops; sweet and slightly bitter hoppy finish with a caramely aftertaste. Rounded dark Bock. 29.XI.11

International Green Week, Berlin 2012: our second day and Hall 22b is where I came across the bar from Passau: after their Helles (on-tap) I decided to have a 0.33 litre bottle of this, their Bock. Chestnut red/brown body, clear and healthy looking, on top a good, solid blanket of foam, light creamy colour. The nose was all malt: toasted, roasted and caramelised. The taste had a semi-sweet malt front: toffee and caramel mixed with dark chocolate and a hoppy backbone that stopped the brew from being sickly or one dimensional. The hop presence is more prominent as the mouth dries and a slight bitterness just takes the edge away from the malty molasses that provide the sweetness. Well balanced and smooth to taste, alcohol hidden nicely: a very pleasant Bock.

bottle, courtesy of pivnizub! Brwon colour, large off-white head. Chocolatey-malty flavours dominate, smoth palate, well-balanced with a shy hoppy touch in the finish.

Bottle. Dekuji, pivnizub. Reddish brown color with medium white head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, syrup. Bittersweet taste with syrup, roasted malt, caramel, coffee, hints of dark berries. Nice long bittersweet finish. Good Dunkler Bock.

Bottle: Clear, chestnut-amber coloured, mid-sized fluffy off-white head, clean dark-malty nose with a toasty and - surprise - slightly hoppy background; moderate sweet and (malt-) bitter flavour, medium bodied and soft; slightly lingering sweet dark-malty finish, some well hidden bitterness in the aftertaste. Nice. Bock…
