I liked it better then Yuengling, but still wasn't that impressed by it.

This was latrobe brewings answer to Yuengling Lager for local market back before AB bought them out. The beer poured a medium amber color with a large yellow-white head. The aroma was tangy mildly industrial brew with a faint sweetness. The flavor was tangy and a bit malty with a faint off fruitiness underneath. Medium finish and body. Nothing special.

Nice amber color is beer’s best quality. Almost devoid of taste. Malt water. Rated 5/14/04

Bottle. Pours light amber with a small white head. Aroma of sweet malts and grain. Flavor is slightly thin, sweet up-front, grain, but smooth and drinkable.

Pretty blah, nothing really to note-nothing bad, nothing good. I’d only get it if it were cheap.

UPDATED: JUL 23, 2005 had $1.00 bottles of this at a bar I went too. i guess you get what you pay for. no just joking it actually wasn’t all that bad. Ive had worse lagers. My main gripe was that it was a little watery. after a few started to get a bad taste in my mouth.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 DarkElf (2961) - La Jolla, California, USA - MAY 7, 2005
(12 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with hopdog, thanks Steve!) Latrobe, huh? I assumed this would be pretty bad, but pouring this beer, this seems to have some promise. Color is nice, kind of a bright amber, and the off-white head is large and pillowy. Retention is decent, though partially supported by quite a large contingent of carbonation bubbles rising rapidly through the beer. The aroma is mostly sweet and caramely, not great, not complex or interesting, but hey, it could be a lot worse. Tasting the beer, it starts off moderately sweet and caramely, but goes downhill quickly. The finish has this odd sourness and a gentle bitterness that clash with the sweet caramel for dominance, and the result is a pretty bad aftertaste. Kind of tastes like a cheap honey beer. Somewhat thin body, but not what I’d call watery. Lacing is actually pretty amazing considering the quality and nature of this beer. A pretty dense and full layer of foam coats almost the entire glass, and has pretty solid staying power. Very nice visuals here. Overall, this isn’t really all that bad a beer, just that aftertaste is the major issue. I’ve had worse.

Tap is better than bottle. Reddish/amber color with medium carbonation. Sweet and somewhat cidery flavor with a foul aftertaste that is somehow wrong for the beer. Not that good.
1.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 7/20 roder60 (1244) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 5, 2005
Pours a light redish color, aroma malty sweetness, basic macro smell. Taste is watery and sweet with a little bitterness and a bad bad sour aftertaste. Overcarbonated. Overall, not too good.
1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 pjk33 (389) - Sligo - Curllsville Heights, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 3, 2005
Bottle. Pours a light amber with not much head. Nose like most macros, not much here in the aroma. OK taste with a little bite, and very little body. Highly carbonated and it finishes with a little bitterness and a little sourness. Not terrible, just not great. Another so-so beer from Latrobe Brewing.
2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 hopdog (7054) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 3, 2005
Poured a medium, slightly hazy, amber with a smaller head. Light caramel aroma and taste. A little on the skunky side. Body was thin and watery. A beer for the masses, but not for me.
