| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 31, 2006 Deep plummy aroma. Deep clean red color (against halogen - otherwise brown and opaque). Nice tan head. Starts with a nice dark fruit flavor. A bit thin. Finishes a bit like a hint of vegetable. Really quite nice. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 26, 2006 From a caged cork 750 ml. bottle with what I am guessing is a bottled date and batch number on the cork, 10/05/p 1, sampled at cellar temperature in a chalice.
Poured a cloudy reddish brown with a foamy, fluffy pale/beige head that settled into a thin bubbly lacing, a small amount of ringed lacing.
Aromas of licorice, ripen plums, earthy breadiness and whiffs of sweet alcohol.
Good quad carbonation and a crisp, dryish, sipping smooth carbonated light bodied mouthfeel.
Pleasant tasting, but I could have used a little more plum, raisin fruitiness for my personal taste, licorice mingled with sweet chocolate malts, a touch of candied-like sugar, a light plum, ripe raisin fruitiness, spice and a bit herbal, the alcohol shows up towards the end and is more solvent-like than anything else, warming in the palate, and a dry chocolate malty finish with a soft plum flavor lingering in the aftertaste.
Not a bad Quad, above average, but not something I would a regular buyer of, a nice sipper on a cold, rainy night.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 24, 2006 Bottle poured in a trappist glass. Poured hazy brown color with an average fizzy light brown head that lasted with good fizzy lacing. Solid complex tart fruit, toffee and alcohol aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture. Excellent complex fruity flavor with a solid bittersweet finish of long duration. Solid drinkable beer. MartinT (5050), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 23, 2006 Any first impressions?
-A veil of foam shrouds the hazy brown-tinted burgundy.
-Cocoa and dry herbal hops are craftfully linked by warm prune fruitiness.
-Tobacco and chocolate are once again present, this time in the flavor profile, tied to a fruitiness which this time recalls black grapes.
-Big bubbles soften up just enough to reach appropriate carbonation levels for the style, as a well-fed, but never hefty, mouthfeel is created by the apt maltiness.
What if you dig deeper?
-Herbal hops proffer decent bitterness which rises alongside candied fruitiness.
-Cohesion is not this beer’s forte, but it manages to remain coherent all the way through.
-Alcohol is very well hidden, showing just enough of its heat to warm up the palate.
-This competent quadrupel won’t ever replace the giants of the style, but it can sure play soundly.

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 1, 2006 Hazed to muddy umber color with a tall light caramel colored head and lots of bubbles rebuilding the head. Toffee, cherries, raisins, dates and plums dominate the aroma. Some mild floral undertones of petunias and roses and a hint of herbal spices. Very simple sugar fermentation flavors with brown sugar, light candi, fermented plums and acidic earth. Finish is quite metallic and it continues into the linger. Very simple to point of seeming cheap and poorly fermented. Certainly not much of an abt. DYCSoccer17 (2190), Davis, California, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Sep 23, 2006 750 mL bottle purchased at the Nugget on Mace in Davis, CA. Floral, sweet, sugary, musty aroma present. Some dried fruits here, but mustiness prevails. A touch of chocolate as well. Moderately hazy ruddy amber hue with a creamy, persistent light tan and yellowish head with fine bubbles. Wow, this is very burnt and very dry. Not much in the way of sweetness at all in this. It is a pretty static, dry, burnt popcorn flavoring which finishes dry and with a touch of chocolate flavoring. This is not enjoyable to me at all.
