Aroma is robust with scents of raisin, caramel and toffee. Appears as a dark opaque brown with a thin foaming. The drink is very lightly carbonated and has a very smooth character that doesn’t overpower my tastebuds like other quadrupels i’ve had. Alcohol goes unnoticed.

30.04.06 750ml bottle at HWOH. My notes call this _De Proef special brewmaster Belgian Abt_, so this looks to be the one. Dark teakwood colored beer with tight beige head. Big and sherryish aromas on this quad-like beer (I see know it is a quad) with great roundness from a bout of dried dark fruit flavors like fig and raisin. Dry, woody, and corky. Full bodied, it finishes with a tart bite that is unexpected and maybe out of place, but it’s pretty good. Lively. Seems like a pretty good rendition of a quad, to me, and if that’s what it’s supposed to be then more power to ’em.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 YourDarkLord (1800) - Urbana, Illinois, USA - AUG 7, 2006
Chestnut body under a large, frothy beige head. Aroma: caramel, pear, bread dough, brown sugar, spice. Mouthfeel: medium body, lively carbonation, watery. Flavor: Somewhat sweet moving into acidic. Nothing special but not terrible.

3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 mjg74 (2140) - La Mesa, California, USA - JUL 13, 2006
Bottled. Pours a very dark ruby/purple color. Aroma is dominated by dark fruits. Slightly sweet, almost reminds me of a sweet dark wine, like a sangria. Slight hint of yeastiness. Strong roasted malty flavor up front with a little bit of a fruity grape-like flavor. Some candy flavor along with a bitter finish. Some alcohol flavor, but not too strong.
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Styles (2014) - Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA - JUN 27, 2006
Bright mahogany color with decent tan head. Aroma has all kinds of dark fruit. Plum and raisin dominate. Decent malt backbone although it’s hard to pinpoint anything, just sweet in general. Plenty of alcohol detectable. Flavor is a little bit of a letdown. Everything seems muddled, so much it’s hard to pick out individual flavors. Just faint spice in the finish. Body way thin, average quad at best.

This Quad pours a deep amber color from a 750ml cork finished bottle. Large sized long lasted white foamy head. Aroma is cherries and plums and raisins, brown sugar, molasses and clove. Touch of alcohol. A medium bodied quad. Malts are roasty, fruity and sweet. Lots of brown sugar and chocolate flavors. A little earthy and spicy. Touch of alcohol bite at 10% abv. Malty and sweet, without being cloying. Nice sipping beer. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet with a touch of alcohol bite.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Cletus (6064) - Connecticut, USA - MAY 7, 2006
Pours ruby red with a thin but stubborn ring of off white bubbles that stick to the glass leaving a nice lacing throughout the drinking. Smells of dark fruit (plums, figs, raisins), and alcohol. Taste is sugary with some mellow fruit and spices. Finish reveals some warming alcohol, but not overwhelming. Mouthfeel is chewy.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Cornfield (5277) - Oak Forest, Illinois, USA - APR 21, 2006
Nice pour, a deep mahogany body with a dense, sustained tan head. The aroma contains a sharply sweet malt, alcohol, plums and cherries, and a light spiciness. The flavor is sugary sweet, with juicy fruits and raisins, caramel and clove, and a steady alcohol burn. The finish is dry and hot on the tongue. Not bad at all.
