Pours brown, with a tan head. Aromas are fruit, malt, and alcohol. Flavors are dark fruit, malt, with nuts and bread, too. Body’s a little thin. Thanks to LarryPitonka for this bottle.

750 ml Bottle, corked & caged: pours a dark, mahogany with ruby tints and a film of off-tan and slightly grey patches. Dusty currant aroma with a milk chocolaty essence and dried fruit (apricots, berries and bananas) presence. Sweet and sticky palate with a good deal of carbonation. The flavours on the tongue are very nutty and almost seem harsh with the nose picking up the initially hidden alcohol. A pretty tasty treat with enough chewy yeast, blackened cherries, and woody aspects to keep me interested.

5000 (4113) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - OCT 9, 2005
Bottle: Rich burnt caramel, thick and hazy, humongous light beige head, pillowy, with uber sticky lacing.   Looks very inviting!   Soft and subtle nose of dried dark pitted fruit, black cherries, slightly barnish, whafts of alcohol, with a smidgen of apple skin.   Sweet on the tongue, very soft dried dark pitted fruit, malty, bready.   The cherries on the nose don’t translate so much onto the tongue.   ABV is very well hidden.   Full bodied, tangy finish, clean, soft fig/date lingers.   Tasty, but wished it was a bit more aggressive on the nose and on the tongue.   How’s that Alan?

Bottle - corked and caged from the Michael Jackson Rare Beer Club. Pours a clouded murky mahogany. Timid tan head bubbling up and resting for a few seconds before retracting back into the body. Nose is very nice! Fruits (black cherries, raisins, and plums), light cocoa, hints of brown sugar and light hints of custard. Very nice! Taste is a bit lesser of the aroma but still very good. More fruit (plums and raisins), more of the yeast coming forward, light cocoa, some bittersweet chocolate, light flowery notes and candyish flavors. Body is very effervescent but smooth and medium bodied. Finishes with more fruit, though this time seems bit on the tarter side (sour cherries and maybe raspberry but also mixed with figs), dark chocolate, Belgian yeast, flowers, and sweet malts. Very nice beer! This should age nicely!
