To be honest, I’m glad I didn’t invest in a bottle. I dig most of the De Proef beers, but this was probably my least favorite. Not as much wildness/funk as their other selections. Too sweet. Purple/copper brown pour. Figs, cherries, raisins, and other dark fruits as well as candied sugar and caramel. Sugar bomb all in all, and a surprisingly harsh alcohol burn. Poured medium amber with a creamy cap of khaki head.. some sticky lacing on the sides of the glass. The aroma was strong with dark fruits and cherry skins along with peppery yeast and alcohol.. became quiet phenolic as it warmed up. The flavor had quite a bit of sourness to it in the form of berries and lesser metallic notes.. I did enjoy the malt bill with rich vinous character and caramel.. touches of earth and a lot of alcohol warmth around.. finished with more of the grapes and some plums. Medium-plus bodied and hot on the palate with some decent malts but the balance was all wrong. frylock (1024), Buffalo, New York, USA

The Quad freak finds another and moves up in the ranks. Shared with my girlfriend. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Nose is sweet and rich. Taste is sweet and rich and overall just ok, a bit too sweet and slightly too boozy for me. daknole (2896), Plantation, Florida, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 12, 2009 Bottle. A tasty beer but not great for the style. Hazy brown color with a beige head. Aroma of yeast, caramel, and malt. Flavor is lots of caramel malt and dark fruits, not as well-balanced as a Westy 12 (but what is?). Slight bitter finish, fairly smooth mouthfeel. randolphjj (97), Raymore, Missouri, USA
