Poured hazy brown color with an average fizzy light brown head that lasted with good fizzy lacing. Solid complex tart fruit, toffee and alcohol aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture. Excellent complex fruity flavor with a solid bittersweet finish of long duration. Solid drinkable beer.

| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 1/5 | 11/20 | Jan 7, 2010 Apple nose, with traces of vanilla that approach that of plastic. Hazy brown, thin tan head, good lacing. Brown sugar and candy flavor, full bodied roasted malt base, alcohol very evident. Some raisin notes present. I find few faults in this beer, but nothing excites me about it either. Not even close to being my favorite from de Proef. Boring. arrogantb (809), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 26, 2009 750ml bottle $12. Dark brown color, red tints, so-so head. Smells like alcohol, raisins, not sure if its more dubbel or quad. The taste was kind of underwhelming, more raisins, sweetness, alcohol. I usually like De proef beers but to be honest I was a little let down by this one in particular.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 13, 2009 750 ml bottle corked and caged shared by Tmoney99. Pours a cloudy, dark copper body with a medium creamy beige head. The aroma is light caramel, dark fruits figs and plums, a little chocolate, and a quaff of yeast. The flavor begins sweet with caramel and dried dark fruit flavors and finishes warming and a touch roasted with some yeasty spiciness. Medium-bodied with medium carbonation. The alcohol, although mostly hidden, came out with warmth. There are other examples I would go to first. Too much sweetness in the finish. Travlr (983), Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Dec 10, 2009 750 ml bottle purchased in July 2008, stored in my beer cellar until December 2009.
Very dark ruby red with a large light beige head that settles over 5 minutes to a surface layer of fine bubbles, with good lacing.
Aroma has notes of vanilla, chocolate and dates
Begins with dark cocoa and progresses through raisins to scotch, with a bitter cocoa finish. Alcohol shows through.
Nice body, better than most abts.
D: I expected more of a mellow flavor after 15 months of storage, this one still had quite a punch. Reasonably good complexity, not outstanding, but definitely in the upper half of Belgian abts. hopscotch (5611), Vero Beach, Florida, USA

The aroma offers big-time chocolate, hay, molasses, candy sugar and dates. Medium to full-bodied and oily with lively carbonation. Sweet, nutty, chocolaty flavor. Bittersweet, date-like finish. Aroma is of cinnamon, brown sugar, dark purple fruit, candy sugar. Flavor again with the dark fruit, a nice nuttiness throughout, hops show up now in front of the sweet malt behind. Thicker viscosity, medium carbo, a little hot on the finish. Overall, very good plus. MaltOMeal (669), Land of Sugar, Texas, USA
